Carol works herself hard and is always out and about, so she’s always quite tanned and freckled. Her body is also quite muscular, but she works off most fat so she ends up skinny.
She keeps her hair short, though she never really works hard to keep it combed or neat. It’s only ever combed when she needs to look presentable around officials. Her eyes are a dull green, and she has a few scars on her upper arms and shoulders from wher bites.
Her clothing is simple, rough, and easy to repair when she needs to repair it. She doesn’t really care about clothing, since they’re mostly there to protect her from the elements and sometimes whers.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Carol is the life of any social event. Though she might burn a little too brightly for one's taste.
She loves all things related to whers, finding kinship with them. Her own mannerisms are blunt but well meaning, and can be crude at times. However, she still does her best to set a good example for those around her, working hard to make sure those around her can experience life with a similar passion. Carol is quick to point out the little things, details one would otherwise miss, but really only when it interest her.
This lady does not embarrass easily, and doesn’t always read the room. She tends to offend people without meaning to, but if she is called out on it, she will almost always apologize. While she is blunt and forward, she’s not cruel and hurtful. However, when she feels she is right, she will dig in her heels and refuse to budge. It will take a lot of effort to unstick her, and even when she concedes, she’s still very grumpy about it.
Interweyr politics don’t interest her at all. She doesn’t do politics, nor in depth discussion in the weyr. She’s very much concerned with what’s happening now, not concerned with past or future events.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Kerny – Father
Porti - Mother
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
Hers is a simple story.
Carol was born to a couple of Healers at Fort Weyr, and was expected to follow in her parents footsteps. She was caring enough, even as a child, but she didn’t see too interested in learning how to heal. Heal HUMANS, anyway.
She was constantly sneaking out, going out to see the whers and interact with them. Carol just felt like they understood her better, didn’t judge her because she was heavyhanded or clumsy or blunt. They just let her hang around, just enjoying their company when she was allowed out. Hence why, when she was old enough, she jumped at the chance to become a wher candidate. While she waited, she compromised with her parents, wanting to learn how to heal animals, dragons and whers in particular. They were happy that she was at least learning to heal, but they were wary of the lumbering creatures she chose to tend to.
Impatience led her to buy a wher egg, as she was eager to start learning how to ride one and practice what she’d learned. One egg later, and she found herself with a lovely blue wher, her first and closest friend. She was only 18 at the time she met Carsk, so they were both still so new and inexperienced. But they both worked hard, learning something new every day.
But… She longed for new adventures. To learn more about whers and how they lived out in the wild. She couldn’t just leave her responsibilities, and it made her and her partner antsy. Luckily, an opportunity opened up when a new weyr was established on the southern continent, meaning she could leave her life behind, start anew in a fresh, untouched place… Even if she wasn’t as young as she used to be, she still retained her youthful curiosity, her wonder and her willingness to explore.
Granted, the spottie population kept her and her wher inside most of the time, but her knowledge did not go to waste. She was offered the position of wherlingmaster due to her frankly obsessive knowledge of whers, and she really only accepted to teach new wherlings about her favored creature… and perhaps see things from her wherlings’ point of view, learn from them while teaching them. While she'd rather just be teaching about whers as a whole, she does her best to cover all the bases of what a wherlingmaster teaches.
