Brabbop is fairly tall, with a good amount of fat around his midsection. Don't let the big gut fool you though, he's also got some decent muscle, which is particularly visible on his arms. He keeps the sides of head shaved down, leaving the top relatively short. His hair is coarse and curly, running along the top of his head down to the base of his neck, where the longer strands are typically tied in a ponytail or a braid. He's got a large amount of body hair, and has a scraggly set of mutton chops growing along his jawline.
His septum is pierced, and he typically has a large ring strung through it. Brabbop prefers his clothes to be equally flashy, in bright colors and revealing as much skin as possible. He often opts for vests with no shirt underneath. He also frequently wears an old pair of rider goggles he inherited from his mother, because he thinks they make him look cool.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Brabbop is not much of a thinker. He's simple minded, and has a hard time following directions if there's more than two steps to the process. Most work completed by him can be described as "scribble, scribble, done." If there's a shortcut or easier way to handle the job, he will absolutely take it if he's not carefully supervised and instructed to do it the proper way. Once corrected, he generally fixes the behavior, but there's no guarantee that he'll remember it when he repeats the work at a later date.
When he's not "working", he's getting into trouble. Brabbop has a big mouth on him, and loves to get in a fight, whether verbal or physical. He doesn't typically have the vocabulary to win a spoken conflict, but he's also quick to forget when he's been given a verbal dress-down. To him, a fight is good natured ribbing and fun, even if others around him don't see it as such.
He's gullible, and not staunch in his beliefs. He'll easily switch sides in a debate if someone makes a good point, or bribes him appropriately. Or if he just thinks it'll be more fun fighting on the other side of a conflict. He can easily be convinced to do something if the payout is good enough, though results of the work may vary. He's definitely a lackey, not a leader.
Despite his many flaws, Brabbop is a good friend. He'd quickly risk himself to save a friend, knowing he's tough and capable of taking a few hits. He's rowdy and boisterous, with a love of music and dance. If he could make a career of partying, he'd absolutely do it, but unfortunately, he doesn't have the smarts for Harper work.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Aboppe, Father - Vinter, out of the picture
Barbraba, Mother - Greenrider
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Ista Weyr
HISTORY:
Brabbop was born to Barbraba, a greenrider of Ista Weyr, and Aboppe, a Vinter who was based out of Ista Hold. Even though Barbraba knew he would receive great care and education from the creche, Aboppe insisted that he would care for the child, and be the strong fatherly role model a growing boy needed. Thus, Brabbop was raised in Ista Hold by his father. His mother visited as much as she could, which was admittedly not as much as she would have liked, due to her duties as a rider.
Brabbop was a rebellious child, not at all the well-behaved successor that Aboppe had expected. When it came to learning the ways of the vinter, Brabbop had no interest in following in his father's footsteps, and constantly slacked off during his lessons and did the bare minimum required of him when it came to helping around the shop. He had no interest in making spirits, or learning how to sell spirits, or any of that boring sort of thing. He looked up to his mother and wanted to be a rider like her one day. When he was a young boy, she gave him an old pair of her riding goggles, which is his most treasured possession.
His father grew tired of constantly scolding the boy and began just letting him play with his friends. It was playing with the street urchins where Brabbop picked up his love of fighting and rough around the edges nature. This bothered his father, but not enough for him to bother trying to correct the behavior. Instead, he just grew more distant from his son and less involved in his life, which suited Brabbop just fine.
This did not go unnoticed by his mother. When Brabbop was 16, his friends were starting to move from childhood mischief into actual crime. Barbraba didn't mind her son fighting other kids over childish matters, but she drew the line at stealing and trying to shake down innocent passerby, knowing that such activity could quickly lead to him becoming Holdless. She was also displeased that Aboppe had let it get this far, since he was the one who insisted on raising their son in the first place, instead of letting him stay in the care of the creche, like she wanted. She told Brabbop she would take him under her wing and help him become a candidate if he moved to the weyr with her.
Brabbop readily agreed, but did not realize his mother had never specified which weyr he would be joining her at. She had put in for a transfer to Semaca, to help them build and to get Brabbop as far away from the bad influence of his friends as possible. At first, he was furious that he had been tricked, and instead of joining the candidacy like his mother had planned on, he found a new group of bad influences: pirates.
Though he never joined a crew himself, he did do drudge work for the weyr in positions that would let him get into as much contact with the pirates as possible, mostly handling cargo from port. Though his interactions were limited, he was influenced enough to get his nose pierced, much to his mother's chagrin.
After several turns of doing this drudge work, one of the pirates talked about how he was thinking of becoming a candidate, and the idea of Brabbop pursuing candidacy was put back into his head. If pirates could become riders and handlers, surely he could too. So, in early fall 2776, he decided to sign up for candidacy. His mother hopes he sticks with it this time.
