FULL APPEARANCE: Small in stature, Ridelle is someone who often seems taller than he appears. With a commanding presence and perfect posture, it’s rare to catch him as looking anything less than picture-perfect. Clothes and hair are always kept perfectly neat, any dirt scrubbed away the moment it becomes known to him. Even his skin is free of any noticeable blemishes, though if one looks closely his back has the smallest scattering of freckles across it.
His hair, cut short in the back with longer bangs in the front, and is smooth, a nice shade of deep almost orangey red. The bangs are often left loose to frame his face. His eyes are large and wide, a shade of blue-grey that, although not unusual, suits him quite well. They are framed by thick, long eyelashes, the kind that people get jealous over.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Ridelle is someone who is very dedicated to the concept of order. He follows rules to the letter, and will also do his best to ensure his peers do the same. Coming off as strict and harsh, he can seem quite mean to those who don’t know him well. His irritable nature doesn’t help this, as he tends to lash out when annoyed. Mentions of his height are one of the most common things to make him lash out, though anybody disagreeing with his morals and ideals are likely to find him ranting towards them as well.
He’s been trying to be better at not lashing out lately, however. Ridelle is someone who is still learning how to compromise, and isn’t very good at it, but he does try. He’s proven himself to be surprisingly helpful in his own ways, to the point where he’d study things he hasn’t had a chance to learn yet as a candidate to help a fellow candidate out. It is one of his goals to make sure himself and his fellow candidates are fully prepared to be excellent riders one day, and he will study and work to make sure that happens.
His strictness comes from a place of obligation, his own parents having encouraged his tendencies for much of his childhood, only to be hard on him when he expressed a desire to change his goals. Only when he came to the Weyr did he learn how to relax, though he’s far from having mastered the art of taking it easy and not being hard on himself. As it is he still believes himself to be the best, if not always right.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother (No longer in contact)
Father (Deceased)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Minor Hold
HISTORY: Born to a journeyman tailor and a journeyman vintner, Ridelle’s upbringing was an interesting one. Though he lived in a minor hold and there weren’t many expectations for him to be anything special, from a young age he and his parents had decided that he was going to study at a crafthall when he was older, though they didn’t choose which one until he was old enough to apprentice. By age 8 he was working as an apprentice Tailor, having decided his mother’s craft was good enough for him. His dad was offended by his choosing his mother’s craft, and after that point they drifted apart a little, although they still loved each other.
Ridelle was very strict on himself for much of his childhood, encouraged by his mother to study well so he could fit in at his chosen crafthall when he was a bit older.
Though he didn’t mind tailoring, by the time he was a teen he wasn’t entirely sure if he wanted to continue as one. He wanted to become a master of the craft he chose, although he didn’t like it, but his hesitation was enough that he didn’t end up going to the crafthall, a fact that his parents couldn’t understand and were hard on him for. Hadn’t he wanted to be a master? Did he not want that anymore? His mother was especially hard on him for this, seeing it as an affront to her craft.
Ridelle, feeling the need to get away, found himself with an opportunity by the time he was 17: to come to Semaca Weyr as Weyrfolk, where he might have a chance to be searched on dragon day. He took the chance, having had a massive argument with his mother and unwilling to admit any kind of wrongdoing on his own end of things. Having been at the Weyr for only a short while, he began to learn how to treat himself and others with a bit more kindness.
He did indeed end up being searched on dragon day that year, and became a model candidate fairly quickly. He threw himself into the lessons, which he found infinitely more interesting than tailorcraft had been. He was enjoying himself, and for the year until he turned 18 found himself ignoring his mother’s letters, happier than he’d been in a while.
However, he recently received a letter that his father had perished in an accident in the hold. Furious and grieving, his attempts to be less mean have regressed somewhat, an uptick in his angry outbursts towards other residents of the Weyr showing his pain.
