[EVENT] Remedial Training

After several riders made serious mistakes in the recent candidate rescue mission, Fort's wingleaders have gathered the weyr's dragonriders to review the basics of combat, including both strategy and technique.

E'lis thought a lot about Ronnie these days. It was plain as day that the wherhandlers were getting viewed with more scornful leers after Kichsk rampage in the lower caverns. And now this? He thought to ask her opinion of the matter, particularly with her new brown. Hadn't that one been wild before? Maybe he knew of this supposed 'Ieyak'?

But the time to intermingle with the prettiest lady in all of Pern had been hampered by one incident after the other. Between threadfall, and whers ... He was growing antsy. Also guilt. He hadn't been out there when the candidates were attacked. And one had died! Useless! By the time the alarm was roused and E'lis had gotten Plemeth ready with sacks of firestone, the tumultuous disaster ebbed from chaos to recovery. At least training here and now ... and reassuring those who'd screwed up somehow or another ... would help numb the agony he felt for not being present when shit hit the creek.

"C'mon, y'all! Stick to what you were trained. Improvise as it happens, it ain't all gonna be perfect!" He was sparring with an individual, doing his best to mimic what a wher would do. Plemeth watched from the sidelines, amused at her rider gone watchwher. "Yeam I'mma getcha - remember what you gotta do!"

E'llis feigned a lunge, leaping to the rider's side as a 'fake-out'. Teammates had to help each other out.

"Whoop, looks like I didn't snag ya! What's yer next step? Yer off your dragon and this big ol' fella wants you for lunch. Next course o' action, go!"

Y'olai hadn't gone to help with the rescue efforts, and lot of their classmates had. They were not feeling great about that, despite the fact that Tsukasath had repeatedly assured them that - as the smallest of their class - she was not the ideal choice for either going toe-to-toe with whers or evacuating candidates. Yermie got where she was coming from, but they still felt bad. So they'd joined the remedial training session. Maybe if they reviewed their training, they'd be more helpful!

Tsukasath was a little annoyed at being dragged to this thing; after all, all the training in the world wouldn't be enough to make up for her lack of size. But if Yermie wanted to sit in on this thing, she'd sit in on it too. Even if a lot of it was listening to the instructors repeating the same information to them.

"No, I get what you're saying," Yermie agreed, nodding along. "Whers are pretty fast. But I go running every day. I'm pretty fast too, when I want to be. I think in an emergency, I could lead them away from candidates, and then give them the slip once we were far enough away!"

Yeah, this was why Tsukasath hadn't let them join in on the mission. They would've gotten both of them hurt or worse with their pure, exuberant optimism and love of running.
