Splash of an Evening [Ezra]

It was a beautiful summer day, and while candidates were kept busy they did have free time in the evening, and evenings were still warm even as the sun started to fade. Keir thought it might be nice to take advantage of both that free time and the good weather to go for a swim in the lake.

Leaf winged along above his left shoulder around the level of his eyes, her marbled hide catching the dimming light of the sun with a healthy sheen. He always took meticulous care of her, and the bright, friendly flit kept him company loyally.

The delicate boy was dressed only in a pair of cut-off trousers, a shirt draped over one arm, and his boots on for the trek out to the lake. Once he got to the edge of it, he tidily stowed his shirt and slipped off his boots, then smiled at the expanse of water before he stepped out into it, eager for a swim.

Kaelin had been eyeing the lake for several moments, his boots and socks removed and his pant legs had been rolled up to the knees. Despite the summer weather, he still at times preferred wearing pants, though the material was light weight in these to keep him from overheating.

He was worried the water was going to be too cold or he was going to step on a rock or something with teeth and had been fighting with himself to just.. step in and stop being afraid. He was a disappointment in so many ways and he knew it. Clearly his cowardice was why not a single dragon would sully themselves with being attached to him. That had to be the reason. Times like these.. he really did miss his best friend Thane, who had long since become a full rider and had such a busy schedule.

Sniffling slightly, he squared his shoulders and stepped into the water, letting it lap around his ankles. After a few moments, he moved a little further in. Grinning like a goober because he had pushed his fear aside and just did the thing, he heard Minerva bark in greeting to someone. Turning his head towards where she was looking, he noticed another person was here. Offering a greeting and wave, he grinned. " Hey there! Water is a nice temperature for a good dip eh?" He offered, raking a hand through his curls.

Keir eyed the dog briefly, wondering if it was friendly, then waved back at the other candidate as Leaf settled lazily onto the shore just out of reach of the dog. He nodded as well, in easy agreement; the water was quite fine.

He always felt a little awkward around ... well, just about everyone. The fact that he didn't talk made social interactions uncomfortable a lot of the time. Still, he usually managed to figure it out, and it wasn't like they had to have a lengthy conversation while swimming, right? He hoped so, at least.
