Well, That Has a Nice Ring To It [Fem]

The saying was that the second time was the charm, but really? Things were bound to go better when they were planned by a human being, not left up to a pair of ambitious fire lizards. Gamora had sulked for a month after her egg turned out to be a dud, and Black never liked it when things didn't go to plan.

Besides, Shiro could use a little brightness in his life right about now. Things were rough, and with the weyr gearing up for an expected Fall, this could be a perfect distraction. He hoped so, at least. It would be a nice welcome home present for the blue rider who had spent his weyrlinghood at Fort.

He tucked his parcel in the elbow of his bad arm, and knocked on the door to Keith's weyr.

"Hey, Keith. You got a minute?"

Keith's head lifted at the knock and a small smile crossed his face. Newly returned to High Reaches from Fort following graduation, he hadn't had much time yet to spend with Shiro as he worked to re-acclimate himself to his old Weyr and acclimate Shinadoth to his new home. The Blue hadn't much of an opinion either way, but if Keith could become better in a place he was familiar with, all the better.

Standing, Keith opened the door with a grin. "What can I do for you, Flightleader?" He asked, teasing. The parcel Shiro had with him was noted, but he didn't ask about that, not yet.

uh, death mention? vague reference to PTSD

Keith was beautiful, Keith was talented, Keith was a friend. Shiro was very proud of him, and glad that he had decided to return to High Reaches after graduation.

Keith was a teasing brat.

Shiro huffed a self-conscious laugh, ducking his head a little. Flightleader, yeah. Senior Flightleader, whose first Fall resulted in the death of his twin's dragon. His junior was cut from the same cloth as the bronze riders that had always terrified him as a candidate. He didn't particularly want to dwell on his election.

"No formalities." It was supposed to be a request, but Shiro couldn't quite pull off the casual air. His throat was too tight for it to be anything other than a bitten off demand.

"Not here." Not with you.

Gamora screeched out of between just then, disrupting Shiro before he could descend into glassy-eyed distance. She had not be consulted about this! It was her idea! Her knife kid! The green dove from just above Shiro's head, wings tucked tightly to her sides as she swooped around her person. Time, time, time!

"At least one of us missed you." A little more open, a less less raw.

Keith felt his stomach twist into an uncomfortable knot as he picked up on the mood of the room. He'd fucked up, but he wasn't quite sure how. Was Shiro mad at him? What did he say?

Don't mention his position, Shinadoth supplied from his couch, watching but not moving. That was a sore spot, but the Blue didn't know why. Apologize and move on.

"Sorry, Shiro," Keith said, trying his best to play it off casually. He didn't want this to be painful, but happy. He'd missed Shiro more than he realized, mostly because taking care of a young dragon tended to take most of one's attention. "Hey, Gamora," He greeted with a laugh as the Green swooped around like a noisy little bird. Energetic, wasn't she?

His eyes widened a bit in realization and he stepped aside, making way for Shiro to come in. "Oh, I don't think you've met him yet, but this is Shinadoth." Keith gestured to the Blue who rumbled what he hoped was a greeting at the Bronzerider.

Shiro took a deep breath, dismissing his tension with the exhale. He hadn't meant to snap, and Keith deserved an explanation. Later, though. There would be time to unpack the whole tragedy later.

Gamora took the opportunity to land in Keith's hair, uncaring of the mess her landing caused. She had to have the best vantage point, after all, and that blue didn't look friendly. Wait a second.

Blue.

It wasn't that Gamora forgot why her knife kid hadn't been around in almost two Turns. She and Black had delivered a number of messages to the other weyr, so she had met the dragon, at least casually. She just forgot that her Shiro hadn't met the blue, and that she had introductions to make!

Shiro reached for an easy grin, and missed. It didn't reach the shadow of his failures in his gray eyes, but the sentiment was there. He rubbed the back of his neck with his good hand as he paid his respects to The Volcano.

"No, I hadn't," he told Keith. "Welcome to High Reaches, Shinadoth."

Gamora abandoned her perch in Keith's hair to greet the blue. She landed on his tail and chirped a challenge as her greeting. She wasn't known as a fighter for nothing!
