Knowing was half the battle, Carthusia told herself. If she could figure out what was going on, perhaps she could transfer to another weyr or something. At the very least, she might figure out why there hadn't been any eggs on the sands in what felt like ages. On top of that, she had been left standing, alongside another man she'd seen frequently.

R-something. Carey thought she knew the first letter of his name, but...

Her frustration was getting to her and so she decided to try making allies among the candidates left grounded.

She spotted the man during the lunchtime rush and made sure to introduce herself as diplomatically as she could. Carey was a queen-in-training, or so she thought.

"Good day to you, fellow candidate," she said, motioning to the table. "Would you mind if I sat and chatted with you? I'm Carthusia. I've seen you on the sands many times. You and I... still no dragon, hmm?"
