Bathers are sharing their theories on who may be behind the poisoning, as they carefully inspect the soap for signs of tampering. Could it be Sha'm? We all know she's not to be trusted! It's in her very name! Once a criminal always a criminal- brand or no brand! Maybe Nhelin? I swear that brown of hers is always up to no good and you know queens of any species are too ambitious by half! Kiobelin? I just don't like the look of that guy. I know! It was Pyeta! He was right there when that poor weyrfolk died. Proximity to the crime is the clearest evidence of guilt! And he's been acting different ever since- clearly tormented by his conscience...Who do you think did it?

Perhaps a bark of incredulous laughter wasn't the best response to one of the rumours in particular, but the overtall and overthin Kiobelin had arrived just in time to hear it.

"Please," the wherhandler said drily, "If I wanted you all dead I wouldn't go for something like poisoning things at random. Besides, why would I want you all dead? My family are here, and anyway, I like it at the Weyr. It's much nicer than the Hold was."

The wherhandler peeled the last of his leathers off, then slid into the hot water.

"If you're going to invent stories about me, at least come up with something reasonable. That one just makes me sound incompetent."
