Hyliath had been Diamond's bond long enough now that - short-lived memory or not - she knew Diamond's moods. She knew how the human was most likely to react when something went badly. Specifically, when things went badly with another woman.
Diamond was stalking towards the Weyr's gates, rage and hurt swirling inside her, so the garnet quickly crossed the Weyrbowl to her human. Diamond, my dear, what are you doing?
"What does it look like?" Diamond snapped. "I'm heading to Tillek Hold. I need to go beat up some of their sailors."
Hyliath sighed. Please be serious, Diamond.
"I am being serious!"
You are not going to walk to Tillek, and once you get there, you are hardly going to punch the first sailor you see.
"Oh yeah? Watch me!"
Hyliath brought her tail down on the ground in front of Diamond, blocking her path. Diamond tried to scramble over it, but Hyliath just brought it up to chest height to continue blocking her, then slamming it back on the ground before Diamond could try to duck underneath. Skud, being Skud, tried to move the tail himself, but he was only a firelizard, and Hyliath just ignored his efforts. Finally, the woman glared up at the garnet. "Don't try to stop me, Hyliath! Those Tillek sailors have it coming!"
They have done nothing to you.
"Yeah, well I never liked their attitudes!"
Diamond, if you refuse to be reasonable, I will have no choice but to take you back to our weyr myself until you find you can be calm.
"I'll just run into the lower caverns!" Diamond snapped. "You can't stop me, Hyliath! Don't even try!"
The garnet considered this. Very well, then, I suppose I must confine you here. Gently, carefully, she knocked Diamond over, settling one of her massive claws daintily on her torso to keep Diamond in place. Then she settled down on the ground comfortably to wait for this temper tantrum to run its course.
"Hyliath...Hyliath, get off me!" Diamond snapped. "This isn't funny!"
No, it is not, and that is why I am not laughing, Hyliath said. She tossed her head, trying to get Skud to stop fluttering around her eyes. The firelizard didn't seem to know whether he should attack Hyliath or not, but he was extremely upset that she was pinning Diamond to the ground.
"HEEEEELP!" Diamond shrieked.
What are you doing? Hyliath demanded, sounding horrified.
"Calling for help!" Diamond said, indignant. Then, raising her voice again: "HEEEELP! SOMEONE GET THIS THING OFF OF ME!"
Assistance is not required! Hyliath assured anyone who might've been listening. She is my rider, and I am not hurting her in the slightest.
