Quite like a deep-sea thing [Open]

You could take the dragon out of the sky, but you couldn't take the sky out of the dragon -

- or, well, actually you could ... once you've rendered their eyes useless.

It wasn't Sendaith's fault for either of his eyes being duds. One was gone when he breached the shell on his birthday. The other was seared out by thread - and quite a daring feat was that! Still able to bring his rider to safety! Still strong, not cowering or creeling at all as he was led to the healers for their wondrous numbing salve. What meant it to him that the world turned dark? D'cara gifted him with wondrous sights with his own gaze!

Yet I cannot scratch the itch of stretching my wings! he lamented. This was true. How pitiful! He was meant for grand thing and now ... was confined to the ground. But not a worry. This is nothing that cannot be tamed. My wings were born for the sky but will play the hand they were dealt and cope. Like water, we will change shape to overcome the new obstacle!

Like water.

His sense of smell was strong. D'cara helped him to the weyr bowl and stood back at the caverns' entrance to watch from afar while the blinded blue stumbled for his destination. Fresh water was a nice, prickling sensation. It was a nice, strong aroma when his toes felt the dampness of soil change beneath his talons.

Ah, I've arrived.

It was still cold from winter, not yet warmed with the coming spring, and it would remain that way for several weeks at this altitude. He slipped into the lake as a waterlogged lizard. Sendaith's form whipped from side to side until he was deep enough to inhale one deep lungful and plunge into the watery depths - blinded and consumed.
