Deng had thought long and hard about this. Engsk had been very insistent she wanted a new wher about, one she could teach the ropes with her handler. She really wanted a baby around, and he’d failed to impress at the last wher hatching to go on. Engsk had been understandably disappointed at that, but there wasn’t much to be done- he wasn’t chosen, simple as that.
It had taken months after that point for Deng to decide it was time to give Engsk what she wanted. She had waited, but Engsk only had so much patience, for all that Deng’s was better than hers. Purchasing an egg was easy enough in Semaca, and now, it was a matter of waiting. The egg he’d purchased wasn’t long from being ready to hatch, and it had been a few days since then. Surely he would have a new wheeler to look after soon?
Staring at the egg and sighing momentarily, he wished it would just hatch already. Engsk had been eager, but growing more grumpy with every day their recently purchased wher egg hadn’t hatched. The egg, where it was positioned in a comfortable container of sand, didn’t seem to move or react. When would it hatch, exactly?
