[RUMOR] Wher Diplomacy

Do you think we should be trying to make contact with Semaca's wild wher packs, to see if we can avert an attack like the recent one at Fort? We already have enough enemies with the spotties and can't afford another war with the local wildlife.

"I supposed it's a question of if reaching out to the local wher packs will lead to productive collaboration, or just incite them to attack us for impeding on their territory," Mawkin mused, idly spinning a pen between her fingers. She had been writing when the question had been brought up, but was interested enough in the conversation to look up from her journal. There were certainly benefits and risks to both sides of the argument, and she could see how someone could take either side. She was honestly not sure which side she would support, since both arguments were so balanced.

Best reach out, Mawsk joined in, making a decision for the pair. Better know threat than not. The wher said in her gruff voice.

She nodded slowly at the words of her wher. "That is true. What do you think?" She asked the person next to her.

"We live in a jungle full of vicious wildcats," Zinaida quipped sarcastically with a glass of wine clasped between sinewy old fingers smudged with grime and coal. "I'm sure they don't get off easy with 'em anymore than we do."

She glimpsed at big brown Zinsk, already a father after being bonded to her with just under a year. He'd come from those leafy green overgrowths, though he bared no scars. Wasn't it safe to assume there were more out there like him?

"It's not like Zinsk was out to chomp my ass when we first met," she continued. "He came from out there, so ... safe to assume there's more. Make an' alliance with 'em, so the cats won't wanna encroach upon any of us."

"Oh yes, that is true. Zinsk did come from the jungle. You told me about that at the feast last season." Mawkin nodded, but was disappointed in herself for not remembering that fact. She had it written down in one of her journals in her weyr, but didn't have that particular volume on her today.

"Can he provide you any insight on the whers of the jungle? Does he think they would be open to discussions with us?" She looked at the brown as she spoke. He was a quiet wher, quite unlike her Mawsk, who would speak clearly when spoken to, so asking the question to his handler seemed the safer bet.
