Artoirel is a tall and very well built man of his age. Broad shoulders frame a muscular chest and well strengthened arms, toned from years of practiced morning exercises. His hair is dark as night and thick as wool with a slight curl to it that almost seems gentle if not a bit feminine. A formal sort every chance he can be, his hair is rarely out of place and when it gets to be an unruly mess, he will get agitated and fix it.
Eyes as blue as polished sapphires rest under long and thick dark lashes. High cheekbones, a well shaped but average sized nose and shapely chin finish the face of a man who rarely smiles, often an expression of neutrality sits upon his features.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
If serious and responsible had a posterchild, Artoirel would be it. Serious, responsible and devoted utterly to his pursuits, he rarely places much stock in frivolous things, such as romances and flights of fancy. Ever the professional, its rare and almost never heard of that he embarrasses himself or speaks in a less than eloquent manner. While he may seem a very composed and professional older brother, when alone, he has a tendency to be overly critical of himself and never seems happy with any of his accomplishments, ever thinking he can do better, bigger and more effectively.
He is also very much a keep to himself sort, though not antisocial. He really finds ignorance and crass language and licentious behaviors abhorrent and will make a point to remove his person from such situations if not reprimand the offending party. This trait has won him few allies or friends but he honestly prefers it that way, finding large crowds of people too noisy and messy for his liking.
When it comes to his home and the state of affairs however, he will not shy away from doing what needs to be done to keep peace.. though he does question the way things may be addressed at times, but these are thoughts he keeps to himself, not bringing them out into the open until a proper time to do so.
As the professional older brother, he often finds himself meddling silently in his brother's affairs, though he feels more akin in personality to his half brother than his full brother. Their family dynamic has been an.. interesting one to say the least and he is not really open about talking about it, preferring to keep things such as his father's indiscretions private if possible. His protective nature rears itself the most with his brothers, not above putting them down a peg if he feels they are doing something foolish or dangerous without reason. He also feels the pressure of living up to his father's achievements as a brown rider and sometimes wonders if he will ever reach his full potential.

HISTORY:
Artoirel was the first born child and son of Y'noto and Artoia. Despite being a quiet child, he was always very active and intelligent, picking up on things rather quickly. His early life was not very notable.. aside from the fact he ended up with a half brother from a different mother. While he tried to be involved in his brother's life, his own mother kept him constantly busy, no matter his accomplishments it was never enough for her.
He tried to put it in the back of his mind and a bit of relief came when his baby brother was born and some of her attention was directed at him. But it soon became evident that this brother was going to be a trouble maker. Despite his desire to not have to get involved, his more protective nature kicked in and he tried to guide his brother along a more acceptable and less reckless path.
But his own training, work and his mother constantly up his backside left him less time than he liked to bond with his siblings. To say they had a sort of distant relationship was not an inaccurate assumption. He made his first attempt at age 16 to impress. This did not turn out favorably. Year after year, the result was the same, despite him doing everything in his power to make it happen.
This resulted in a lot of inner self loathing and blaming himself for failure and he began to shut out everything but what he needed to do to succeed, his mother constantly on his back, his father's successes and shadow looming over him. So to combat his own inner demons, he indulged his protective instinct and followed his little brother to Fort Weyr, wanting to make sure the lad kept his nose out of trouble and as exasperating as it was.. he felt a sense of duty and desire to protect his kin becoming the driving force that kept him out of his own head while he awaited the day he would impress.
Then it happened, at age 24.He was watching the hatching, finding his eyes oddly drawn to a larger baby brown that was wandering about. Something about this one made him feel.. drawn to him. It almost as if that was exactly what the dragon had in mind when it moved to him and locked eyes with him. A serious voice, one deep and almost velvety filled his mind as prismatic light filled the creature's eyes and a feeling of strength and desire to protect swelled in his heart.
He had finally impressed and what a magnificent creature his Jitteboth was. For one of the few times in his life, he felt tears form in his eyes as he ran a hand down the dragon's neck and felt all this time waiting was worth every day of disappointment. Everything in his life had led to this moment. Realizing how emotional he was getting, he did his best to dash his tears and slide his mask of calm back into place. He was vaguely aware of the quiet acknowledgement of his impressing a brown from his father which was more than he normally got. It only added to the joy of the moment.
While bonding with his dragon as they shared a similar personality, there were times that Artoirel questioned his need to get involved in the turbulent political climate, preferring instead to be in active defense of his home against threats of invasion and the looming thread of Threadfall. When the severe Threadfall of Spring 2764 hits, he finds himself without a shortage of things to do and his skills called into practice. He frets for the welfare of his brothers, having lost track of them over this time period as he was moved about place to place where he and Jitteboth were needed.
As the winter of the current turn came and went, Artoirel felt a sense of duty and desire to protect the budding effort that was going on in Fort Weyr to prosper and wanted to do his part to see it to fruition. While his eyes were ever on his brothers, he was also putting in all effort to make sure that people were well protected, that he and Jitteboth got things done that needed to be and worked hard to be seen as dependable and a man who could get things done, no matter how dangerous.
