FULL APPEARANCE:
Soonyhano is quite tall side, and all wiry muscle. He's otherwise not really all that remarkable. He has an angular face with high cheekbones and a narrow jaw, an aquiline nose, and thin lips. His eyes are a medium blue. His hair is a dark, warm blonde, kept slightly on the long side though he cuts bangs as an almost-concession to practicality. He can be rather vain about it, and refuses to entertain the notion of chopping all of it off.
He tends to dress in neat, fine clothing, preferring quality of pieces over having more to choose from. As a result, his wardrobe can be rather bland, but he's still proud of it. In the winter, he can often be spotted walking about in what appears to be far less clothing than is sensible, rarely deigning to put on a coat unless he's going to be outdoors for an extended period of time.
His voice is somewhat higher pitched than one might expect of a person his size, often sounding as though he's on the edge of laughter.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Soonyhano has always tried to live up to the ideal of what he believes a rider should be. It is in pursuit of such notions that he considers his every action before actually acting. He can often come across as exceedingly stiff and formal, though to those watching more closely he can occasionally be caught visibly holding himself back from more enthusiastic behavior. This isn't to say that he never acts on impulse; on the contrary, he is in fact by nature astoundingly impulsive, and even he can't always act with restraint. Sometimes he wishes he had the courage not to be concerned with such things, but always he worries what others might think of him. While he's not a traditionalist in the slightest, there are certain ideas about behavior that have been impressed on him.
He is, at his core, an idealist and an optimist. He wants the world to be better than it is, and also believes that it can be. He's quick to encourage and reassure friends, and gives freely of his time and assistance. He is more than a little protective of people he cares for, often to the point of throwing himself into situations he doesn't need to be in; in such cases, he thinks little of the danger or inconvenience to himself, though he also fails to consider if his help is even needed.
His enthusiastic nature shines through primarily in his speech. He tends toward describing things in rather extreme terms, either as utterly wonderful or exceedingly horrible, with almost no in between. His wording is also somewhat overly flowery in such cases, and his tone can tend almost toward zealous. He's rather good at expressing his feelings and opinions, save in matters of the heart. In such cases, he rather clams up; he thinks this makes him good at hiding such things, but really it just makes things obvious.
The cold is something that has never bothered Soonyhano. In fact, he prefers things cold and snowy, when he can curl up in a blanket and drink hot chocolate, which is just about his favorite thing. The summers are the one part of Fortian life he doesn't seem to have adjusted well to, and he can often be found floating in the lake trying to keep cool.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother, Maysoon, estranged
Father, Y'noto of Brown Hutawth
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY:
For much of his life, Soonyhano was utterly unremarkable. Unwanted and regarded as an inconvenience by his mother, he was raised by the creche with occasional visits by his father. His family situation not at all unusual at the Weyr, his life was actually pretty good. He was a decent student, and not much of a troublemaker. He was good at making friends with the other children, and so was rarely lonely. Always, he sought to follow what he saw as his father's good example.
As he grew into adolescence, he had eyes only for the path toward becoming a rider like his father. He didn't consider any Crafts, though he did grudgingly admit that if he aged out—if—then he would become a guard. For him however, it was always about becoming a rider. He became a Candidate the day he turned fifteen and never once looked back. He would dutifully do anything required of him, but it was the chores that put him in position to cross paths with dragons that he most loved.
Turns passed. Soonyhano gained a reputation for being one who did not tolerate bullying in his sight, but beyond that he kept his nose clean and was noticed primarily for his long run of failures to Impress. He began thinking more seriously about a future as a guard, and trained more often with them. If he couldn't be one of Pern's defenders, he could at least do the next best thing. He refused to give up hope, even when it seemed that nobody else at Telgar had the slightest faith in him.
And so he left. He requested a transfer to Fort, a Weyr that at least tried to live up to the same things that he believed in. It wasn't perfect; its golds had a rather poor reputation, but they were trying. That had to count for something.
