" A time may come soon when none will return. Then there will be need of valour without renown, for none shall remember the deeds that are done in the last defence of your homes. Yet the deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised. "

BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Retire
NAME: Renatus
GENDER: Male
PRONOUNS: He/Him/His
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual

BIRTHDATE: Late Summer 2742
AGE: 28 Turns as of Late Fall 2770
LOCATION: High Reaches Weyr
OCCUPATION: Rider
WING: Moonshot Wing

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5’6”, slim
PLAY-BY: Lionel Messi
FULL APPEARANCE:
Renatus is certainly not a large man. In fact, he’s quite small and understated. He has a rather small, somewhat angular face, and his rather large ears are possibly his most prominent feature. He has a fairly broad nose, and a mouth on the small side. His eyes are dark brown, and fairly narrow, with heavy eyelids. He has dark brown hair, usually kept fairly short, though it has a tendency to attempt to spike straight up and forward in the front.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Renatus is, first and foremost, concerned with morality, followed closely by duty. Everything else can fall by the wayside, but on those two he is rigid and unflinching. He believes that, as a resident of the Weyr that caused so much trouble, he owes it to the rest of Pern to become a rider and work for the protection of all. However, he will not compromise his moral stances for the sake of even his duty. He will not willingly do another person harm, lie, or follow an order given when he knows it to be wrong.

This has caused him some trouble in the past. Sometimes known as a snitch and a goody-two-shoes, he refuses to yield on his beliefs no matter what people say about him. He believes in leading by example, and very much wants to lead someday, being convinced that his ideas would make Pern a better place. However, he sometimes worries that he might fall prey to his father’s fallacies: the belief that maybe some people aren’t born equal to others, that maybe some people might be less, and that maybe he’s one of them.

However, for all his certainty, Renatus is actually a rather quiet, soft-spoken man. He doesn’t hesitate to speak when he feels he should, but his voice is simply not loud, and his tone often sounds carefully considered. He also doesn’t usually use many words when few will suffice.

He’s extremely serious, rarely joking. He often feels as though a heavy burden has been placed upon him, and as such rarely smiles, though when he does it’s a wide and genuine expression involving his entire face.

HISTORY
FAMILY:
Kr’atus of Blue Aerth, Father
Iren, Harper, Mother - Returned to Harper Hall
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: High Reaches Weyr
HISTORY:
TW: Bullying

The son of a Journeywoman Harper, it was almost by accident that Renatus happened to be born at High Reaches Weyr. However, it was to be so, and as Iren knew exactly who his father must have been, she informed him and then left their young son with the creche and resumed her travels before his first Turnday, as was the way of any parents at the Weyr who did not choose to personally care for a child.

Kr’atus was both overjoyed and reluctant to have brought a son into the world. On the one hand, he delighted in the tiny new life. On the other hand, he was a staunch supporter of Golre and her regime--and yet, he was a Bluerider. He, as many of her other supporters did, believed that some people were born for greatness, and others… were not. He, as a rider of nothing more than a blue, fell into that category, and by extension his son almost certainly would as well. They were, as he often told Renatus when he visited, of lesser stock.

Renatus grew up believing two things to be true: that his father was unquestionably wrong, and that one day he would find a way to change things. He would rule, and rule for things that were Just, and Right. Or, perhaps, he would find someone who would rule like that, and he would be their willing servant. Whatever his path would be, he knew that it would be for the betterment of his Weyr and home. His father never took his dreams seriously, however, and on the rare occasions that he brought them up during visits, they were simply laughed off. That was fine. It only made Renatus more determined to see them through someday.

Eventually the war ended, but for him, little changed. Golre still ruled as she always had, and his father, while in rather less danger, still believed himself to be beneath the metallic riders, despite the fact that for all Renatus could see, riders of all colors were pretty much the same: some were honorable, some were lazy, and some were outright evil. The only thing that varied was how much power they held in the Weyr.

He had few friends then; he was never especially outgoing, but around that time he garnered a reputation as a bit of a tattle-tale. Of course, he’d argue, he was doing the right thing by reporting them, but few he had told on particularly agreed with him. For some Turns he was bullied; he was never as big as many of the other children, and though he was a fast runner, when it came to a fistfight his ability to run didn’t help much.

However, as he grew older things got better. The bullying mostly stopped, probably because he stopped spending time with those who might be inclined toward mischief, and thus he stopped feeling the need to report people who might have considered him a friend. He even managed to make a couple of friends himself, though he was always just a little distant. And then he was allowed to stand as a Candidate, and for a few brief moments his father’s ideas seemed like they might be true. What if he impressed blue, or green? What if he was trapped at the bottom of the chain of command, unable to change anything at all?

But still he stood for Turns, failing, and then the unthinkable happened: Golre was murdered. Almost overnight, the Weyr changed entirely. The Weyrleader was a bluerider. The Weyrwoman was a man. And Renatus again found hope. Maybe he could still have a chance to change things. Circumstances shifted again; Fort and High Reaches began trading Candidates around and, convinced that he could do as much good from outside High Reaches as within, he began standing for Fort clutches as well, though his loyalty would always lie with the mountain Weyr he called home.

UPDATES
  • Failed to Impress several more times
  • Finally Impressed to Bronze Zalth
  • Zalth is... not what he expected. Cunning, crafty. Evil. Renatus is hesitantly pretending that everything is all right.
  • In their first Fall as full riders, Zalth crash-lands, badly injuring his wings and spraining Renatus' ankle. They're lucky things didn't go worse for them.

ZALTH

Image

BASICS

NAME: Zalth
BIRTHDATE Late Winter 2765
AGE: 4 Turns as of Late Fall 2770

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 42 ft
HEIGHT: 10.5 ft
WINGSPAN: 63 ft
COLOR: Bronze
HEX CODE: #121300
FULL APPEARANCE:
A small bronze. No, seriously, Zalth is positively runty. And he doesn't really seem to care if you call him that. It's not insulting. He's very aware of his smaller stature but he is concentrated viciousness. His wings are massive for his size, like a cape. He is gorgeous, no doubt about it. He is a dark bronze all over, like the night only prettier. His markings are a pale bronze. Over his wings there are sharp markers, like pins or maybe chess pieces. There are stars across his chest up to his wings, with swishes of lines like paintwork. The color curls around his head like a crown, and gathers over his neck and chest like a cape. His hind legs have intricate lines, like they are marking out armor.

Though Zalth sounds like a child, there is a viciousness in his tone that cannot be described in words.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Zalth is a master manipulator. He can be charming and charismatic, strong and bold. He prefers not to fight, but woe unto those who fight him, because he is absolutely brutal. He is not bloodthirsty, per se, but he definitely knows what to do to destroy others in the most horrific ways. He wants Pern to bow to him, to see the errors of their ways. After all, they need to see it his way, that Pern is broken and only he can lead them to utter glory. The worst of it is that he is so good at being convincing that most don't know he is venom until it is far too late.

To his rider, they are just another pawn. He pretends to care, but they are a means to an end. He is cold, pretending to be so interested and needing them, but really... well... Zalth is a creature of an iron will. Peace through tyranny. His rule is absolute, and he will prove to everyone that he is worthy. That said, if he is actually in power, he tends to take care of those he has power over. If his squad mates are injured, he will take it upon himself to bring them food, or to watch eggs if a clutch mother needs to feed.
