Aydholin is a tall, muscular young man. He has a mop of wavy, sandy blonde hair that he wears "messy"... which really means artfully arranged to look effortlessly messy. He has a rectangular face with an angular jaw and a heavy browline over bright blue eyes. He's usually ready with a smile.
Aydholin loves fashion and spends more time than is probably prudent trying to look good. He's always neatly dressed, and even if he has to do something that gets him dirty, he's immaculate again as soon as he possibly can be. What would it do to his reputation if he was seen dirty?
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
One would be forgiven for, upon meeting Aydholin, assuming that he was the spoiled offspring of some lord or other. He's certainly spoiled, convinced that he's the best at everything he tries and entitled to only the finest of everything. He's vain, almost foppish, and not a particularly hard worker, preferring to coast his way through life on his looks and charm. He's not very enthusiastic about the amount of work required of riders, but he's still certain that it's his surest path toward glory. He approaches his relationships in the same way, almost immediately flirting with every girl (and he's starting to consider that some guys might be worth flirting with) he meets and, when he gets bored with a relationship, doesn't yet have the maturity to consider the consequences of infidelity. He seems genuinely confused when his advances are unwanted, though at least he's smart enough to respect their wishes.
Despite being rather selfish, Aydholin is also friendly, open, and genuine. What you see with him is what you get; he doesn't usually pretend to be someone he's not. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, but he is willing to do things others would call "wrong" if his own morality calls for that action. He's not afraid to hurt people, either physically or verbally, if he thinks it would be an overall benefit. It's the one thing he's willing to hide about himself, because he's not proud of that fact. He wants to be seen as good and just. He's a glory-seeker, wanting to distinguish himself in Threadfall despite his father's objections. He's probably too quick to throw himself into harm's way if it means it will get people talking about him.
Aydholin finds rules (and if he's completely honest, steady relationships) chafing. He wants to be free of them while also finding them rather comforting, and he doesn't like this apparent contradiction in himself. He doesn't like restrictions on his behavior, but he can recognize that sometimes his inclinations are toward too little work and too much play. He does still have some Holder sensibilities about propriety as well.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Father, Kholin, formerly K'lin, Dragonless
Mother, Aydoma of Green Iamith
Paternal grandparents
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: A new one (usually only one...) practically every other week
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
Aydholin was born to a pair of rider parents, the product of Flightlust and a mother who seemed to like the idea of motherhood far more than she liked the reality. He was handed off to the creche early on in his life like so many other Weyr children. He has almost no memories of that life, though. He had only just turned three when his father lost his dragon in Threadfall and decided to turn his efforts toward parenting first and foremost. With no objections from his mother, Aydholin was taken to his father's birthplace, a minor hold in Southern Boll.
As long as he can really remember, Aydholin has been a pampered only child. If his father was sometimes oddly distant when he was young, he overlooks that. He had a loving parent, two doting grandparents, and everything he could ever ask for and then some. If he wanted something and it was within the family's means, he got it. If his father was strict, demanding neatness and politeness and courtesy, well that was no real burden. It wasn't until later in his teenage years, when his father's ideas about appropriate courtship and the hours he was expected to keep, that the rules started to grate on him. Still, he wasn't rebellious enough to ignore them... except the courtship ones. He broke most of those, stopping only short of what would have been considered dishonorable for an unmarried couple.
He was nineteen when a Searchdragon arrived, the first since he was old enough to be eligible. His father tried to discourage him from presenting himself. Aydholin, annoyed by a lecture earlier that day about courting two women at once (how was he supposed to know Eshoma still believed they were courting even after her declaration that she hated his shoes?), rebelled. He would present himself for the chance to become a Candidate. Fighting Thread was the most valiant profession on Pern, after all!
And his father knew perhaps a moment of regret for never telling Aydholin why they had left the Weyr. Aydholin had assumed all along that his father must have grown bored of his work as a drudge. He never questioned why a drudge came from a wealthy family. He never questioned a lot of things.
Aydholin was Searched. Over his father's objections, he left for the Weyr with the rider, eager to make something meaningful of himself.
Plus, there would be a lot more women at the Weyr. Surely one of them would work out... right?
