FULL APPEARANCE: R'set is a handsome enough man, in a somewhat roughhewn sort of way. He's tall and muscular and looks like a warrior. He favors fine, flashy clothes on the rare occasions he isn't in his riding leathers. But he does usually wear his leathers everywhere, as if to remind all the world that he is a bronzerider and they should be afraid. He's often smiling but it isn't a nice smile, more of a smug smirk.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: R'set considers leadership and control his birthright. He's often laughed off by those who know he is a boy playing at being a man. But he remembers every slight and never misses a chance to exert his petty vengeance. No matter how small the insult, it must be avenged, for the sake of his good name.
R'set is a traditionalist. Why wouldn't he be? It's kept his family on top for generations. He despises garnets and mutations, who are outside the natural order, and believes non-male bronzeriders and non-female goldriders are thoroughly unnatural. Not that it will stop him from making Blaze his Junior Weyrwoman. Weyrleadership comes above a bit of distaste.
R'set is a hedonist to the core. He likes fine Benden wine, well-made clothes and pretty women and considers all such things his due, as a bronzerider. Most other people mean less than nothing to him. Other bronzeriders are competition. Goldriders are prizes to be one. And the rest of the world? Dirt under his boot or embarrassments to be wiped away.

BIRTHPLACE: Benden Weyr
HISTORY: Rilset was born the second child and oldest son of Benden's Weyrwoman, Laretta, and her weyrmate and often weyrleader, R'sil. He was told from the time he was too young to hear that he would carry on the family legacy as a bronzerider and that nobody who didn't ride a shining dragon, and indeed nobody outside the family, mattered.
He took it to heart and grew haughty and cruel. His sisters might never be riders- golds were rare, after all, but he? He was the only son that counted. S'et had killed their mother and was far too much...mischief to be worth the trouble. No. He was their family's proudest and surest legacy.
Risae entered Candidacy before Rilset did but she just kept getting older while he Impressed young, to the bronze he was meant for. When his sister Sido Impressed gold, he was pleased for the sake of his influence and his family's prestige, but a bit peeved to no longer be the most important member of their clan. (That S'et Impressed a blue in the same clutch was highly gratifying, proof he had never belonged at all. R'set greatly enjoyed striking his name from the family tree.) But it was almost more galling when Nuuth's first golden daughter overlooked his other sisters entirely in favor of a nobody. Worse- a LIBERAL nobody. After that, it was no surprise when Risae and Luetta both aged out, although at least Luetta had the grace to accept her failure, unlike Risae who had to go and Impress a green at that abomination of a weyr called High Reaches.
Needless to say, R'set was one of the loudest voices calling for Alayna's imprisonment when she continued agitating and causing problems. He set Kujumath to chasing Wyzeth and the bronze successfully fathered two of her clutches. The fact he couldn't acknowledge the eggs or boast of his success galled him, especially when other queens proved less accommodating and he failed to advance to even wingsecond. Frustrated by how long he'd wallowed in mediocrity, he bought a hunting bird on a whim. He'd seen a lord holder with one once and it had struck him as very fierce. Unfortunately R'set's bird soon proved to be an idiot.
When Alayna escaped, R'set wasn't particularly worried. The goldrider had always proved remarkably impotent in the past. Sido would handle it and the whole affair would soon die. It didn't. The conclave took Alayna's side and imposed sanctions, about the same time everything else in Benden started to go wrong for reasons nobody could quite put their finger on.
Never one to forsake his own interests for the sake of loyalty, R'set went to Sido and volunteered to go to Fort Weyr, have his bronze fly Nornth and take over in Monty's absence. The Peacekeepers' were mumbling something about a kidnapping and had always hated them in the first place. Plus...he wanted to be weyrleader and get away from the sinking ship that was Benden. He's not too fond of Blane or Nornth but they're a means to an end. Once Kujumath has caught the gold, R'set would find a way to bring them in line, ally Fort with Benden and get everything he ever wanted. He even took Aeris with him. His youngest sister was yet another in a long line of disappointments but he needed someone to shine his boots and feed Silver. Unlike Fort's drudges, Aeris probably wouldn't spy on him as the girl was appalling desperate to win back his approval.
