PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
For a smith who Impressed before she could make journeyman, Shuri is quite talented. With a quick, creative mind and a steadfast devotion to her craft, she's always working on some little improvement to something or other, whether it's a cooking pot that heats faster, a more streamlined knife or a trigger for the queenriders' flamethrowers that doesn't jam quite so often. She knows enough to make a surprising number of her ideas work, having been shadowing Wakandan smiths since she was small. She loves sharing and showing off her latest advancements, especially those that will keep her brother and other riders safer as they fight.
Shuri isn't what you'd expect of a smith or a lady. She's friendly, irreverent and often snarky, a girl who knows her own mind and doesn't hesitate to voice it. She cares deeply about the world and people around her and believes in using what she has and knows to help others. Shuri is still young and can be a bit naive, trusting that the world is good and fair and that everything will be okay in the end.
She's loyal and supportive to her friends, her dragon and her family and will go out of her way to help them. There may be some complaints and sarcasm along the way, but in the end, Shuri does what she needs to do to take care of her people.
HISTORY

Father: Bronzerider T'chaka, deceased
Older brother: Bronzerider T'challa
Older sister: Ramaka, heir to Wakanda
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Wakanda Hold
HISTORY: To most of the world, Wakanda is a remote mountain hold like any other, beholden to Telgar, sparsely populated and with few resources, its sole curiosity being the matriarchal customs of its leaders. What they don't know is that the small hold has a secret, carefully hidden for generations to protect their land and their people from outside exploitation. Wakanda sits on one of the richest veins of iron ore on all Pern and boasts some of its finest smiths. It is an isolated hold, unwelcoming to outsiders. Few come and few leave.
Wakanda's caution and isolationism protected it when the weyrs went to war. They grew rich off trading iron on the black market, carefully and through layers of intermediaries, and were otherwise resigned to let the holds and weyrs fight among themselves.
One of the few Wakandans who did leave was Shuri's father, T'chaka. He went to Telgar Weyr initially as a spy for his homeland, but after he Impressed, he pledged himself to the protection of all Pern. He began and continued her relationship with Shuri's mother, the Lady Ramonda, in secret and they had three children together. T'chaka continued to visit Wakanda as often as he could and was very much a part of his family, even though his primary loyalty was to his weyr.
Shuri was the youngest of them and the second daughter, with no expectations of inheritance. From an early age, she showed an interest in and an affinity for metalcraft, something which was much encouraged. She proved a bright and eager student and her teachers all knew she would be a gift to her people.
Shuri, however, wasn't content to stay put. She worried about the rest of the world and believed that Wakanda should share its knowledge and riches. It became a frequent source of argument between her, her mother and her siblings.
And then T'chaka died, killed while fighting Thread. T'challa decided to leave Wakanda for the weyr in order to honor his father's memory. Soon, he too Impressed bronze. He continued to visit their family and every time he came, he brought with him tales of the outside world.
Shuri was fascinated, especially when she heard tell of a small, upstart weyr called Semaca, strained for resources and people. She started bugging T'challa to take her there, where she might do some good for the world. And when she reached candidate age, he at last agreed and Shuri set forth- determined to make something of herself and maybe help save the world if the opportunity came about.
Luckily, she quickly found herself a good partner to help along the way. Her first Hatching ended with her knocked to the sands by a bouncing dragon. Brown Motath. Who was good and exuberant and someone she knew she could rely on. Even if he never quite knew when to turn it down.
