FULL APPEARANCE:
Adora is cute and blonde and easy to underestimate at first glance, her height the only thing somewhat intimidating about her. But she is athletic and well-trained, more than capable of handling herself in a fight or out of it. She is also quite a bit stronger than she looks, with more muscle to her than is readily apparent. Adora usually wears her riding leathers even outside of drills, although she will put on formal dresses for special occasions.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Adora tries her best, always. She is earnest, decent and well-meaning, giving her all to everything she does. She takes her position as a rider very, very seriously and she approaches training and Threadfall with a single-minded intensity. She considers it her duty to protect Pern and will go to great lengths to keep her friends and people safe. Adora has a good heart and for her, principle wins over loyalty. She won't stand back and watch as her friends or leaders do terrible things. She'll be a defender of Pern, even if it means betraying the people who trust her. She doesn't give up on the people she cares about easily though and it will take something truly awful for her to recognize they can't be redeemed and stop trying to bring them around to her point of view.
That said, Adora is pretty easy to manipulate and it will take her a long time to see when she's on the wrong side. Her focus often blinds her to the bigger picture and she often won't think to ask the bigger questions until it's too late. Given a job to do and a mission she thinks is right, Adora will forget about everything else.
In larger social settings, she often feels awkward and ill at ease, decidedly more at home on dragonback than at a Hatching Feast. She is friendly and kind, however, and is capable of making friends. Her oldest friend is Arkta and Adora still wants to win her back. Adora knows she did the right thing when she came to the weyr to be a rider- and now Arkta is here too so Adora doesn't see why it can't all go back to the way it was before.

BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
Adora was born at Fort Weyr to a pair of riders, alongside her twin brother, Adam. The pair were raised mostly in the creche, as her parents had a war to fight. R'andor and Marlena died together, only two turns later in 2751, when they were caught in a High Reaches' ambush they couldn't escape. R'andor and Marlena's families both asked for the twins when they learned the news. Eventually, it was agreed that the twins would be separated, so each side of the family could raise one as their own.
Adora was fostered by one of her mother's cousins, a wherhandler and guard from Fort Hold named Mystacor. Mystacor never told Adora where she came from and Adora never thought to ask. She had only the faintest memories of her parents and it never seemed very important.
Mystacor began training Adora as soon as she was old enough, hoping her young ward would follow in her footsteps and become a guard when she came of age. Adora took to the training readily, determined to be the best guard she could be. When Adora was seven turns old, Mystacor took in another orphan, a girl named Arkta Adora sometimes played with, thinking it would be good for Adora to have some competition and a sparring partner. The two quickly became close friends. Mystacor had more affection for Adora and considered her the more promising of the pair, but Adora never noticed the disparity in how they were treated.
When Evander rose to power, Mystacor's influence at Fort Hold grew as she earned his trust and proved her loyalty and ruthlessness. She presented Adora to him and Adora eagerly anticipated the day she too could help keep Evander and Fort safe. Adora believed Mystacor when she said Evander's control and policies of isolation were the only way to protect Fort Hold from a dangerous world that would see them destroyed.
Mystacor's loyalty to Evander did not serve her well, however. She was driven out of the guard after his death. Adora found it all very confusing. If Evander had been a wise and good lord, why had so many wherhandlers deserted him? Why had so many people rebelled against him and tried to kill him? Mystacor promised she would understand when she was older and that Adora should keep training. Since Mystacor could no longer protect the hold, that just made it all the more important that Adora and Arkta were chosen in a few turns.
In 2764, a plague hit Fort Hold that no guard could defend the against. The Lady Holder died and a new Lord, a woman named Vellaren who hadn't even lived at Fort recently, was ushered in as the new Lord. Adora did not grow up to be one of Vellaren's guards, however. A few sevendays into the summer, a searchdragon came from Fort Weyr. It was the first time Adora and Arkta were old enough to be candidates.
The dragon immediately focused on Adora and declared her suitable. Adora never had any doubt she had to go. It was a great honor to be a rider and it was the duty of all who were Searched to stand! Mystacor reluctantly agreed to let her go, disappointed to lose her most promising ward but recognizing the advantages of having a foster child in the weyr. Arkta was furious, however, that Adora would leave her behind and Adora couldn't make her understand that what she was doing was IMPORTANT. It was her destiny!
Despite Arkta's entreaties, Adora left for Fort Weyr. It was the right thing to do. Adora Impressed her first time standing, to a rigid, distant green named Meilith. It took time, but Adora found her place in the weyr. She made new friends among her fellow riders and found a balance with her dragon. Adora even learned a bit about her parents from the people who had known them before they passed. She was surprised to discover they had been riders too and it only reaffirmed, in her mind, that she had been right to come and take up their legacy. She also learned she had a twin brother, but it had been many turns since he'd been seen at the weyr and no one seemed to know what had become of him.
In the summer of 2769, Fort Hold had another uprising. This one drove all the wherhandlers from the hold altogether- including Arkta, who was suddenly right there, at Fort Weyr. She was several turns older and a wherhandler in her own right, but she still hated Adora for leaving her behind and didn't understand why Adora had had to go.
But Adora still holds out hope. They were part of each other's lives once and Adora can't let that go. They've both changed, but that doesn't mean they don't still belong together.
