FULL APPEARANCE: Ieyasu was trained in combat for a young age and while he was initially taught to use weaponry, after his brief time as a hostage, he learned to use his fists instead. And all that careful training shows. He's a large, intimidating, heavily muscled man, with raven black hair and eyes so dark they're nearly black. He manages to avoid looking like a demon mostly through his ever-present smile and marked preference for the color yellow. It doesn't suit him at all. Yasu doesn't care. He likes yellow. It's cheery and hopeful.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: A crusader in want of a cause, Ieyasu is a man forged of good intentions, in a world where the line between good and evil isn't always clear. He's an idealist, who believes in the power of humanity and coming together to fulfill a grander purpose, but he sometimes struggles to live up to his own principles. Ieyasu defines himself by his goals and what he means to achieve to the point of sometimes losing sight of the lines between Ieyasu the person and Ieyasu the once-lord who must save his friends/people/weyr/world at any cost.
For a man of deep convictions, grand ambitions and a somewhat turbulent past, Ieyasu seems surprisingly...happy. No brooding on the burdens of power for him. He is happiest and at his best when he has a clear goal ahead of him and is inclined to take all the problems of the world upon himself with a smile. He wants to help, he can help and he'll help better than anybody else possibly could, so why shouldn't he be in charge? It will take him time to find his place away from the politics and privilege of his old life and to learn there are some things, people simply have to do on their own.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother: Lady Ieyana
Father: Lord Talasu
Uncle: Lord Talazar
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Not yet
BIRTHPLACE: A minor hold beholden to Fort
HISTORY:
Ieyasu was the first-born and only son of a minor lord near Fort during the war turns. He was trained to protect and defend his hold and his people at all costs. When Yasu turned eleven, he decided that at all costs didn't have to mean fighting. When a Benden patrol approached their village demanding they hand over their rations or burn to the ground, Yasu tried to talk them into making peace and being friends. It didn't work. The riders killed his father, took the rations and brought Yasu back to the weyr with them, as a hostage.
Yasu was released after the signing of the armistice. It wasn't a terribly important hold he came from, after all, and Yasu was just a 13 turn old kid. He returned home, to find it now under the rule of his uncle Talazar. Yasu accepted this, knowing it had been the only way for his hold to survive, and focused on assisting Talazar rule as best he could.
But Talazar did not rule as Yasu would have. He started a feud with a neighboring hold over control of some fields and stone quarries. Both sides kept the violence in check, to minor sabotages that would not draw the attention of the greater lords, but Ieyasu saw a better solution. The two holds should combine. Their hold could benefit from the cothold's crops and they in turn could share the stone from their quarries. Talazar dismissed him out of hand, confident of his victory.
And so, when Yasu came of age, he decided to press his claim for hold leadership, determining that when he assumed his rightful place, he would marry a girl from their neighbors to ensure their peace. But many in the hold were of his uncle's mind. It rapidly dissolved into factionalism and infighting, which continued for several turns as the hold struggled to stay together under the two competing power centers. They were a remote, largely independent hold who did not wish to see the matter settled by the council, so both Yasu and Talazar agreed to an election. Yasu lost. And voluntarily went into exile, instead of further dividing his people.
Yasu went to Fort weyr. Because the weyrs protected Pern so perhaps one would have a post and mission worthy of him. Instead, he stumbled upon a familiar albino who had once stayed in their hold. He didn't think the other man even recognized him. It didn't matter. When Yasu learned he was going hunting for wher eggs, he decided to accompany him. Being a wher's partner wasn't such an unworthy destiny, after all.
