FULL APPEARANCE: Uruk's looks are largely unremarkable. He's a man of average height, with dark hair, light brown eyes and not much muscle. His face is quite expressive- usually with happiness or mischief- and his features are friendly and pleasant but not exactly the pinnacle of male beauty. His closet is made up of one pair of riding leathers and ten different copies of the exact same outfit- an orange tunic and red pants paired with a grey belt. Nobody not even Uruk is quite sure how he decided on that anymore but by this point he considers it his signature look. He grows his beard out on his chin but shaves off the rest, also a decision he's not entirely sure why he made but isn't changing now.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Uruk isn't that weird a guy. Really. He swears. Things kind of just...happen to him. He's just an ordinary weaver and all that "color" in his past? He has no idea how that happened or why. He is entirely sure he's very, very normal and just has bad luck or something. And really wishes people would stop judging him for it.
But anyone who knows Uruk can attest...yeah he's strange. He isn't out to cause problems in the usual sense. He isn't arrogant or foolhardy or even particularly brave. He's just careless and impulsive and curious to a fault. Need someone to try those weird purple and green spotted berries that are probably poisonous? Uruk is in! What's the worst that could happen? Poking the mysterious glowing mushrooms with a stick? Of course he should! How ELSE is he supposed to know what'll happen? His survival instincts seeming to be a bit faulty and he just doesn't think through all the possible repercussions of his actions and ends up genuinely confused how he wound up in a mess that yes- is entirely his own fault.
Which isn't to say Uruk DOESN'T have weird luck. Oh he does. Strange things just kind of happen to and around him, whether it's a rare beetle ending up floating in his klah or Impressing the first garnet dragon on Pern. He kind of just expects it by this point and shrugs it off with a "Yeah...typical."
HISTORY
FAMILY: Father: Marduk, trader
Mother: Ur, trader
Various siblings
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A but he's pretty sure he's going to end up married to a two-headed spotty or something with his luck
BIRTHPLACE: Somewhere on the roads of Pern
HISTORY: Uruk was born in the middle of the Interval War to a band of traders. From the start, he seemed to be a magnet for trouble, bouncing from one sticky situation to the next. It was a dangerous life ferrying goods around a world at war and it was quite clear that Uruk wasn't going to last. Sooner or later, his luck would run out.
So when he turned ten, his parents left him at Weaverhall. He'd always been a decent hand at sewing and it seemed a safer place for a child who couldn't resist the urge try riding a wild wherry, just because it was there and he wanted to fly. The war ended two days later. Uruk's parents never came back for him.
Uruk had been happily apprenticed (and safe) as a Weaver for six turns when the Search dragons arrived. He was instantly declared suitable and didn't hesitate to accept. Because dragonriding? COOL! He was a candidate for about a month before he Impressed to a bright red dragon nobody was quite sure what to make of, beyond the fact that her and her sisters were the first of a new color. Uruk didn't care what she was- she was Georsath and his best friend and partner in crime. He just wished everybody ELSE would stop making such a fuss over it.
Things got a little better as more garnets hatched but not entirely- she was still the first, shiny and a runt. Not to mention for some bizarre reason Uruk didn't at all understand the traditionalists had apparently decided garnets were the devil. Uruk made a convenient target for more than his fair share of the vitriol- Georsath was the first, after all, and they weren't exactly the LEAST troublesome pair on Pern.
They still managed to graduate somehow or other and entered the wings. Georsath chewed firestone just like any other dragon- because why wouldn't she? Which made it quite a surprise when she clutched. Sure Quth had once...but everyone had kind of assumed that was a one-time thing. The traditionalists were not happy.
They were even less happy when the eggs hatched. One of the babies was a sweet green who Impressed a candidate just like she should. But the other? Venturith, Pern's first chimera and half-garnet besides. And to top it all off- she Impressed a candidate who wasn't even of age. The traditionalists were pretty sure it was all Uruk and Georsath's fault. HOW that was supposed to be Uruk had no idea. THEY didn't control the color of their hatchlings or who they Impressed to. But apparently it was.
And when garnets started clutching regularly firestone or no? More proof garnets were abominations! And according to at least one traditionalist who had decided Uruk and Georsath made a convenient scapegoat, also their fault as Georsath had apparently somehow given the rest of them the idea.
Uruk had had enough. When a turn later, Semaca opened for transfers, he was first in line. A weyr of rebels and outcasts? Sounded perfect! Maybe for once he wouldn't be the weird one. Two turns later...he's still weird. But at least Semaca doesn't have half so many people calling his dragon a freak.
