FULL APPEARANCE: K’tira is short and appears a bit fragile (although that is only in appearance and is anything but the truth). On closer examination, she is well-formed and strong from the constant workouts needed by dragonriders to be strong enough for their work. Her hair is long and curly and she is constantly working on finding the perfect way to contain her hair when she works. Her eyes are a forest green. She is not particularly fair and the darker tone of her skin actually makes the coppery freckles which dot her nose and cheeks stand out more.

In contrast to her height, her hands are long and thin, and seem to dance whenever she uses them. They are a bit worn as K’tria works so much. For all that she is short, her legs are long in relationship to her torso.

K’tria typically wears clothing in colors that go well against Fuuth’s hide as much as she can. She usually does not wear dresses or skirts, except when there will be dancing. Usually she is seen pants and a neatly stitched tunic. Whenever she goes out, she is concerned about what will give others the most positive impression of them as a pair.

PERSONALITY:
K’tria’s main character flaw: She has been marked deeply by her past where she lost her beloved twin. The fear of losing more in her life makes it difficult for her to get close to anyone. Whenever someone reaches out to her in friendship or a sensed romantic attraction, she tends to pull away. She therefore seems cold and remote to everyone. She knows this is a weakness she has and wants to work on it.

On the other side, the tragedy has made K’tria a very caring and concerned person. She may not give hugs of comfort or bright smiles, but she will fight for her patients and against any perceived injustice. Before a rider and dragon in search persuaded her to come to High Reaches, she had advanced significantly in healing studies determined to protect everyone she met from going through what she had.

K’tria is very serious and studious. Her smiles are small and rare and there is a sadness in her eyes that never fully goes away. When she was not in lessons in on duty in Healer Hall, she could be usually be found reading a Healing text or practicing her skills. Since becoming a rider, she had expanded her studying to rider skills and wing patterns. She does enjoy the outside and has knowledge of herbology, so she found a place for a small garden box in her weyr.

This crisis also made K’tria very strong mentally and determined. Once her fate was linked to Fuuth’s K’tria decided to throw all of her energy into being the best soulmate she could for him.

HISTORY:

2745—Katrria was born, one of a set of twins to Rialan and Caryla at Mountain Edge Hold. Mountain Edge was remote hold that specialized in the production of tubers and some other ground roots used in healing. Katrria and her siblings were required to participate in the day to day manual labor of the hold unlike in larger holds, but as the children of the Holder they also had an elevated status and were well-educated by the hold’s devoted harper. Caryla also educated both of her daughters in hold management. Mountain Edge is not one of the holds where life revolved completely around work, everyone there was able to pursue their own interests and there were days of fun and celebration as well.

Katrria and Parria were identical twins and very close, despite their personalities being very different. Katrria was quiet and shy while her twin was obstreperous and outgoing. They shared everything and even liked to dress identically on occasion.

Spring, 2757—Katrria’s twin died unexpectedly unfortunately none of the herbs in the hold’s stillroom nor a visiting journeyman healer could save her.
Katrria was lost without Parria. She pulled away from everyone and everything. Her mother was almost at a loss as to what to do for her daughter until a passing journeyman healer suggested a change of scenery might help. He thought Healer Hall would be an option for her as Katrria was very intelligent and obsessed with the idea that if only they had had the proper herb her twin might have been saved.

The idea turned out to be a good one. Katrria needed a change from the hold where she and her twin had grown up together. The classes she attended challenged her and she enjoyed helping people in this way. She realized healing was the craft she wished to pursue. She studied hard at the hall and progressed through various levels of apprenticeship. With her patients, she was gentle and managed a level of capable calm, even when their condition was dire. With her fellow apprentices, Katrria was somewhat cool and professional. She socialized, but had few close friends. It was as if she was afraid of losing anyone else.

Katrria was hoping to walk the tables to the journeyman level when she reached the required age of twenty-one. However, Katrria was assisting with the Healer tent at a Gather near High Reaches when a green from High Reaches began sniffing at her. The green’s rider suggested that Katrria might be qualified to become a rider and told her he was willing to ‘Search’ her for High Reaches’ next Hatching. Katrria was intrigued, but uncertain as to whether to give up all she worked for to completely re-start her life. In the end it was the thought of having a creature she could be close to, one that was so big and strong, it would be in little danger of leaving her that made Katrria’s decision for her.

Katrria went to High Reaches. With her usual passion for learning experiences, she applied herself to whatever the candidates were required to do. On Hatching Day, she stood on the sands wondering if it was really possible..and it was.

It was Fuuth who first called her ‘K’tria’, he had pulled the name from her mind and she had to agree she had been thinking a brownrider needed to have a proper name with an honorific. She gazed up at her new brown soulmate, he was so big. She thought she was going to be bound to one of those little blue or green dragons. It was good he was big, Fuuth told her, that way he could protect her and himself, somehow instinctively knowing that was her greatest fear. For his part Fuuth chose Katrria because he sensed she had strength and could give him the level of devotion he would require and that is what he needed most.

Throughout their weyrlinghood, K’tria and Fuuth worked together to become the best dragon pair they could be. Although Fuuth always tried to order her around, K’tria learned how push back when necessary. Fuuth feared that K’tria’s interest in healing would distract her attention from him, but found that when she did help out in healing it only created good will for their pairing.

K’tria for her part, attempted to help Fuuth find his calling. She knew that whatever they did, both of them would have to be a good match for the position, but any direction Fuuth looked, she was willing to go.

From the first K’tria noticed Fuuth’s friendship with Saupeth and encouraged him to pursue it if he wished. One of them should have a close friend, she decided. She hoped that if she could not find Fuuth a path, maybe Saupeth would.

Upon graduation, with the pressures of basic weyrling training behind them, K’tria continued her healer training on a limited schedule so as not to interfere with her duties to the weyr and Fuuth. Although she maintained her interest in herbology, K’tria concentrated her training in the illnesses and injuries common to rider and dragon. She and Fuuth joined the Healer’s Wing and they were always ready to help when any rider or dragon had need of assistance.

Over the turns, K’tria did manage to gain a small circle of friends, but although she met a few men and women who were interested in her romantically, she found herself unable to reciprocate their interest. She had Fuuth and he was a close enough companion for her.

FULL APPEARANCE: A strong, firm brown, one who looks like if he were shiny, he would be a bronze without question. Fuuth is a strong, broad-shouldered and wide-winged brown who stands on a sturdy foundation to lead Pern to glory. He is powerful. He is charismatic, and he is here to stay. He is a reddish-brown all over, almost like an oversized garnet. His markings are incredibly similar to Casvath, and if the two were side by side, you would think they were twins. His face and forefeet are covered in a paler brown, like a mask and gloves. His neck and shoulders have darker brown, and gold-brown markings in an elegant design. His forelegs have similar sleeve markings.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Fuuth may as well be the second coming of Casvath. He is a proud, charismatic dragon who is more than willing to see the world bend to his will. He has the charm to do it, and he knows it. He genuinely wants to see Pern change for the better, and he will become the embodiment of the will of the people to do it. That said, he constantly seems to have an internal identity crisis. He does not seem to know who he is supposed to be, or if he is supposed to have some identity other than this figurehead to lead the people of Pern. It leads him to feeling rather lost when they are alone, and rarely he will doubt himself, but only in private.

To his rider, Fuuth is a military commander first and friend second. He is rather strict, and he has to learn how to relax. Saupeth seems to be able to get through to him, and the other dragon seems to be one of his few grounding companions... even if he needs to reign him in now and then. Fuuth has grand designs and will do anything to see them succeed, even if he needs to give up who he is to do so. He needs a purpose in life, but he also needs to find an identity as well.

Voice: Fuuth's voice is charismatic and strong, and he is incredibly eloquent without being flowery.

-Fuuth is a dragon. He wouldn't particularly care about his rider's hairstyle or eye colors, unless he was worried about her long hair causing problems in Threadfall. Her eyes also can't be particularly close to Fuuth's coloring, as his hide isn't near the normal human eye color range.

-"If she will be attending a formal event, she allows Fuuth to decide upon her outfit if he has a mind to"

While a few dragons may have opinions on human fashion, most do not and Fuuth doesn't seem like the type who would.

-Personalities on TPA have a minimum 200 words. K'tria needs a flaw. A flaw is something that makes her less competent or less moral.

-This history needs to be toned down and her personality will need to be edited to match. There was no deadly mystery disease wiping out holds in 2757. TPA does not allow overly tragic histories, so her entire family being killed between the avalanche and the disease is too much.

-Katrria's masters would not have been talking to her about graduation at 20. She wouldn't be considered for promotion to journeyman until 21.

-Dragons do not insist upon anybody accepting Search. They cannot know if someone will Impress, only that they have the potential to Impress. The green might have told Katrria she had potential as a candidate, but the green would not have pushed her so hard to go.

-Healer Hall is in Fort's territroy. Katrria wouldn't have been Searched for High Reaches from there.

-"The brown was a little shocked at himself however for choosing one so small, but he knew she had strength and that is what he needed most."

Dragons do not care about the size of their riders. All riders are small compared to their dragons.

-Dragons do not sit on the Council at High Reaches. K'tria would have to be the one to lead and she doesn't really seem to have the drive or the personality to seek a Council seat for herself. A lot of dragons inclined towards leadership never become wingleaders' dragons, etc, because their humans aren't suited for it. It isn't inevitable or necessary for Fuuth to hold formal rank.

-This history still needs a lot of toning down and her personality needs to be reframed to focus less on her tragic past. Food gone bad can cause food borne illnesses but isn't literally poison that would instantly kill everyone who ate it. This is still too much. I suggest limiting your death count to one dead family member. Please tone down the history and rewrite her personality so K'tria is not defined primarily through the tragedies she's faced.

-If Katrria was a Healer, she should be in Healer's Wing, not a fighting wing and it needs to be listed under her profession.

-Please reread Fuuth's personality. The way he's portrayed throughout this profile does not match how he's written. For example, he would not care about her hair or physical condition. She'd be kept in shape because a rider's life is physically demanding, not because Fuuth insisted on it.

-Please add some explanation of what she's been doing since she Impressed. She's been a rider for a while now!

-Please include "apprentice healer" as well as brownrider under K'tria's occupation.

-K'tria's personality is still very focused on the tragedy of her past. People can go through rough times, be marked by them and still have more to them than sadness and trauma. She lost her twin over a decade ago and would have had time to process and get to a healthier place. If she hasn't, why? Is she someone who struggles to bounce back after facing struggles or tragedy? Does she secretly enjoy dwelling on the loss because she wants sympathy or because she equates moving on with losing her twin again? Is she obsessed with her twin's memory and the thought of what might have been? While most people would be impacted by the loss of a twin, after 16 turns, if it is still the defining facet of her personality, that says something about who she is. Either tone it down or explain why her mourning is still the core feature of her personality. I'll also note that she has since Impressed to Fuuth and clearly loves him a great deal- but that doesn't appear to have helped her process her loss.

-You cannot dictate how other people will perceived K'tria, such as if they see her as cold.

-Riders do not serve or attend lessons at Healer Hall. Healer/riders work at the weyr's infirmary instead, under healers based at the weyr.

-K'tria needs a flaw. A TPA flaw is something that makes her less competent or less moral and has consequences for her. An inner struggle, such as an inability to bond for fear of loss, does not count.

-A hold as small as K'tria's wouldn't be able to focus exclusively on tuber and ground root production. There isn't an advanced enough commercial system for a hold that narrowly focused to survive. They could trade some roots for extra marks or goods they couldn't produce themselves, but they'd also need to grow food to feed themselves.

-There aren't various levels of apprentices on TPA. K'tria would have had no guarantees she'd walk the tables at 21. It wouldn't be within her control- it'd be up to when the supervising masters and journeymen decided she was ready.

-On further thought and reflection, staff feels like Fuuth is not a good fit for what you're looking for. He wouldn't be that gentle with or indulgent of K'tria. We've gone through our adopts and found some options we think might be a better fit. Let staff know if you'd like to see them and we'll send them to you. You are free to DM any of us to ask. Otherwise, a blank adopt, with a personality you write yourself, is always a good option. If you take a blank, you'll need to have her be a candidate and Impress at Telgar, Igen or Ista but staff thinks that should be workable without too many major changes to your backstory.

Thanks for your reply and comments. You can delete this application and the WIP I have Ethen. I think I will just stick with the two approved characters I have now and that's it. Honestly I put so much into Katrria and thinking about her relationship with Fuuth that it hurts to give them up. I have never written on a board that requires so much character development at the start and I do not think that it is a process for me.
