FULL APPEARANCE:
Maybe it's the set of the dreamy green eyes in his frequently-smiling face that does it, maybe it's the hints of freckles on not-exactly-pale skin, but Zenimax often doesn't look as though he's entirely in this reality. The nicks and scrapes of the Crafter are visible all over his hands, and frequently on his forearms and the rest of his body; there are often flecks of sawdust and woodchips caught in the thick hairs on his arms and torso, as well as his head. Taller than average but not by much, Zenimax is solidly-built, but then he's been moving heavy things since he was a boy and that tends to add muscle.
If Zenimax removes his shirt he resembles little more than a rug. Apparently High Reaches doesn't pose too many problems for him in the way it has for others; he carries plenty of insulation beneath his clothing.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Meek and mild, amiable and easygoing - for the most part - Zenimax is far more interested in his work than he is in the people around him. People come and people go, but the wood and the things that need to be made out of it, those are constants in life, and those are what have his focus. Even in his spare time he's often found whittling with scrap from building furniture and fittings; spoons don't make themselves, after all, and good carvings can fetch a few marks at a Gather.
Zenimax tends to be loyal to his friends, but a few people have found out, often to their cost, that if they push too hard Zenimax stops being meek, mild and easygoing. He doesn't like getting angry and will actively try to avoid it, but he does have a temper. Fortunately he also has a considerable amount of sheer willpower to go with it, and 'as stubborn as Zenimax' became a saying in his home Cothold. Even as a child, that willpower was notable, and it's only become more so as he's matured into adulthood - and as he's matured into adulthood he's learned how to have an opinion and express it politely, rather than letting the people around him tell him how to think. A Journeyman, after all, has the integrity of the Craft to uphold, as well as a rank of his own.
Zenimax is dedicated to his calling as a Woodcrafter, and has been known to turn his hand to the occasional fancy piece as well as the day-to-day doors, chests, barrels, beds and bowls that are the Woodcrafter's stock-in-trade.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Cothold folks, from the Benden area
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Cothold, from the Benden area
HISTORY:
Zenimax had a perfectly ordinary childhood in a perfectly ordinary Cothold, and his early interest in wood and how to make things with it was noted. Adolescence arrived and he found himself packed off to Lemos, to learn from the Woodcrafthall there; one of the Masters took a special interest in him, and he learned how to carve as well as craft, and was taught the beginnings of the delicate art of marquetry. On attaining his Journeyman's ticket he was sent to Benden Weyr to make for the dragonriders, which he did successfully for several Turns.
In that time he made friends with a Wherhandler, and realised just how useful a wher might be to a man who needed to deal with large lumps of tree. Confident that he had the temperament to handle a wher, and absolutely certain he had the willpower needed, Zenimax became a formal wher candidate and started saving his marks.
Politics in the Weyr shifted and changed, though, and Zenimax - all unwitting as to how or why - found himself on the wrong side of one of the Junior Weyrwomen, and was quietly reassigned. From Benden he's come to High Reaches, to make things for a new set of dragonriders and stand at wher clutches while saving the marks he can earn from special commissions and carvings. Saving would be a lot easier if he wasn't still building a toolkit fit for a Master, though - the delicate tools of a carver aren't cheap, and he's not very good at up-front pricing on the special woods he might need for a fancy job.
