BASICS

NAME: N'oir; originally Neranoir
GENDER: Masculine
PRONOUNS: Masculine (he/him/his)
ORIENTATION: Bisexual Disaster

BIRTHDATE: Late Autumn 2727
AGE: 34 as of Late Spring 2775
LOCATION: Fort Weyr
OCCUPATION: Dragonrider
WING: Twillight

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Black
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5' 10" | light
PLAY-BY: Windswept OC Maker
EXPY SOURCE: Spider-Man Noir (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)
FULL APPEARANCE:
Of a less-than-average height for a man at 5' 10", as well as being lighter than most, N'oir is a spitfire combatant in build. Regarding his features, his eyes are an incredibly dark brown, while his hair is midnight black, cut in style and often held in Pern's messiest ponytail. In terms of his dress, N'oir is almost never seen wearing something that isn't his flying gear; dark riding leathers paired to a stylish riding jacket and sturdy lacing boots.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Though he's very loud and in-your-face, N'oir means well in most everything he does. Really, he does! Usually. Unless he's made himself clear that he sees someone as a threat or it's something regarding High Reaches, he's very friendly even to strangers and eager to help complete what needs to be done. But he's often too much, even for a very social person. Subtle hints and nudges fly right past N'oir, unless it's spoken straight to his face, to which he can react in a variety of ways. A man of wild and unpredictable emotion, he can be pleased to see you one moment, but something you said in fun is taken by N'oir as an insult and before you know it, he's angrily walking away. It can be hard to determine how he'll respond to something or someone, but not how he feels as a whole; he wears his heart on his sleeve, his emotions clear for everyone to see.

After how badly Golre's war rattled Pern, N'oir has adopted a sense of deep concern for generations to come in its wake. As such, he is always an active mentor for those who need it, both formally as a single weyrling's mentor or as an advisor to all who ask him. It's left a mark on him too. Always vigilant

HISTORY
FAMILY:
Biological Parents - both dragonriders - unknown - open tie(s)!
Siblings/Half-Siblings - none to his knowledge - open tie(s)!
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None yet!
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY: TW: Golre's High Reaches (mentions of combat)
Born to dragonriders in a bout of flightlust, Neranoir was your average weyrbrat. Left to be cared for by Fort's creche, his father was mostly absent from his life, though his mother occasionally made an effort to visit her infant son. That changed in 2731, after Golre started her terrible war, while Neranoir was but four Turns old. Growing up under constant threat, hearing grown ups whisper frightful things in dark corridors when you're supposed to be in bed...it left an effect on young Neranoir. But even so, he grew up in great fondness for Fort's dragons; how strong and brave they were, to face other dragons to defend Fort and everyone else who needed saving. Even as a boy, he wanted to be like that; like them. It wasn't uncommon for a weyrbrat to follow such a path, and young Neranoir was no different.

Neranoir made an effort to grow up quickly, as well as learn all he could before he faced Candidacy, especially in times as uncertain as these. Some spoke of days before Golre plunged Pern into chaos, but he knew nothing else, and would act as such. Turns seemed to pass like molasses, until at last he aged into eligibility and signed up for Candidacy. Though he'd always looked up to dragons and dragonriding as his goal in life, his outlook had slowly changed from pure youthful delight to see a sense of duty attached to his excitement. It wasn't all fun and games, but perhaps it never was; it took this war to make him see that. Turns passed, but Neranoir saw no success, hatching after hatching. And he began to grow frustrated; he had no time to waste! As every hatching he attended saw him left behind, he began to get almost manic in what he saw as preparations; sparring, studying, and otherwise readying himself for this next step forward.

At last, after three Turns of Candidacy, a fine brown emerged from her egg before finding her way to Neranoir's side. After a brief and concise introduction, Candidatc Neranoir was soon after N'oir of Brown Usqueth, and beyond proud to meet her. Almost born bearing this sense of responsibility, Usqueth was an anchor to N'oir and his storm; as though to balance what had since grown into an attitude of reckless abandon to get into Fort's fight against High Reaches. Though it still served its traditional function, weyrlinghood was all about readying these new dragonriders and dragons for active combat as Golre continued in her reign of terror, right up N'oir's alley, and a mantle Usqueth was willing to bear. Graduation wasn't terribly ceremonial, rather almost gloomy as these newest weyrlings lifted wing as fully-fledged dragonriders.

Thankfully, N'oir and Usqueth faced but two Turns in battle against High Reaches before Golre's downfall spelled an end to her influence, ridding Pern of her blighted war. Though hundreds everywhere rejoiced, N'oir found himself a little...lost. What was he supposed to do in this aftermath, if fighting was no longer necessary. Usqueth suggested they apply themselves to helping rebuild in both Weyrs, and N'oir was surprised to find he enjoyed this too; he thought all he'd know and do was bring battles to others' doorsteps. As it all ground to a halt, his primary focus shifted from bringing hell to everyone in his path to nurturing what both his Weyr and other Weyrs needed to move on. But he elected to let his silver-tongued higher-ups to talk of peace and make treaties and what those sorts did after war; all he'd say would most likely start it all up again.

N'oir soon saw value in quiet times, much to Usqueth's relief. In wake of such a long and terrible war, while those who experienced it all firsthand recovered, newer generations to come needed to know what had happened; to know and not let it be forgotten. As such, he volunteered for mentorship for newer weyrlings; rather actively, almost obnoxiously. Even today, taking a weyrling under his wing to teach them all he knows is one of his greatest joys in life, though his first love will always be a good old-fashioned fistfight. As dust settled and life returned to its new normal, N'oir found himself...oddly fulfilled in his new set of duties. Was this what it was like to be a dragonrider? It wasn't all fighting and bloodshed? It wasn't what he thought his life to be, but it wasn't all bad. But Usqueth approved of it, so that completely sealed it for N'oir.

But after eggs of a Fort garnet went missing were stolen and were brought to hatch at High Reaches, N'oir was ready to fly in one-man combat against his old enemy. How dare they! What did they want, an ass-kicking again? But Usqueth urged wariness; those in High Reaches who still followed Golre's ways were a minority, and no one would be eager to ignite a war again. It took quite a bit on Usqueth's part to persuade N'oir against openly demanding retribution against such a blatant insult, but it was done; training dummies took most of N'oir's anger for some weeks after it all happened. But as natural disasters swept across Pern, communications to and from Semaca expanded, and more about Fort's stolen eggs were discovered, N'oir and Usqueth found much more to occupy them...

Usqueth

Image

BASICS

NAME: Usqueth
BIRTHDATE: Late Summer 2764
AGE: 10 as of Early Winter 2774

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 40 ft.
HEIGHT: 10 ft.
WINGSPAN: 60 ft.
COLOR: Brown
HEX CODE: #95633d
FULL APPEARANCE:
Small for a brown, Usqueth is a light and agile flyer, her size often to her advantage in tight turns and other such maneuvers; though she's nowhere near as agile and deft as a smaller dragon, such as a green or white. Appearing rather dainty, her face is long and narrow, and her eyes are round and kind. Usqueth boasts a warm brown hide, sporting a paler hue that "bubbles" all across her head, down her spine, and her tail; this same light sandy brown speckles her entire hide, like a field of stars.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Usqueth is, first and foremost, very focused and duty-oriented. A job done poorly is worse than a job not done at all, in her eyes. Even so, she is not cruel or heartless in her pursuit of effort. It isn't beyond her to know that some aren't able to work or fight as hard as she can, and it's her duty to shoulder what they cannot and to protect them in honor. Though Usqueth is a firm and dedicated worker, she isn't afraid to accept more than her fair share of what must be done in order to get it done, and to get it done right. Nothing irks her more than to need to return to a task to redo it after it was done wrong. To her, tasks are often done wrong, for who could do it better than herself? Despite her headstrong nature, she firmly believes in her team and will gladly work together and fight for them.

To her bonded, Usqueth is his devoted defender and constant confidante. Life had dealt Reeves a poor hand until she arrived to turn this tide of ill fortune, and turn it she did. Though his pain is still potent and present everyday, she will always be at his side to wade through it, as well as all challenges every new day places before them. To Reeves, Usqueth is gentle and sweet, but one can't deny that she can set such a strong burn in her wake. Wise and very intelligent, she won't tolerate someone spouting shards, particularly her bonded. Even as she's present for him and his every worry, that doesn't mean she'll allow him to flounder and drown in his sorrows. Ready and willing to serve and offer aid, no matter what form that aid must be, Usqueth is always up for a new challenge.

Though Usqueth identifies as female and uses feminine pronouns, she will not refuse masculine or nonbinary pronouns. Being biologically male, she will chase and does not rise.

Voice: Usqueth's voice comes as a soft drawl, gentle and warm; some might even say her voice is sweet. Even so, a sharp clip can often be heard in her undertones.

This app overall needs toning down. I understand Reeves' original backstory was much darker, but the tone of your current history is incongruous with the contents of the app (for example, he is going between a series of fairly prestigious careers, none of which are harder than being a sustenance farmer, and the fact that every experience is an ordeal makes him come off as melodramatic), while other tragic events feel unnecessary. Reeves may just be a character who doesn't really work except as a very loose expy. Reeves on TPA will need to be substantially less angsty, because his dark backstory does not fit here.

My advice here would be to just rewrite the backstory without trying to stick to the tone of the original. Let Hargreeves be Reeves' biological father- there's no reason it would be any safer for him to raise him than Reeves' biological parents in a cothold. If you want to keep the structure of what you currently have: Hargreeves pushes Reeves to become a harper, but Reeves isn't suited for the work and doesn't enjoy it. He finds it stressful and draining, for personal reasons you can elaborate on (ex. he has stage fright, he's tone deaf, he really hates sitting still), but feels obligated to continue. Eventually, Reeves manages to tell his father he hates it, they fight and he leaves. It's simpler, with no unnecessary tragedy and gives Reeves some more agency. Similarly, take out the woe of his candidacy and weyrlinghood, along with the conflict about colors and colorists, who were never much a force at the fairly liberal Telgar and would not have cared anyway about his harper backstory. Just keep it simple.

The war ended in 2756. Golre died in 2761. Usqueth hatched in 2764. Reeves and Usqueth would not have fought in the war. He can have lost someone to threadfall but he wouldn't have been involved in the war with the current ages.
