FULL APPEARANCE:
Once a fit and robust man in his youth, the ravages of age come to everyone, and G'zer is no exception. While he maintains some level of physical training, he has lost the ability to keep much muscle on, causing a thin appearance not yet able to be called ragged. Old scars from Threadfall and injuries past streak his form here and there, but none of them are particularly gruesome and most have faded greatly with the passage of time.
Time has also curved him a little closer to the ground, and he has a small but permanent hunch to his spine, though there is no apparent physical difference other than his posture that is affected.
He claims that his hair was auburn once, but there aren't that many people left at the weyr that really remember, or else they don't care to. In his age he sports a mildy unkempt mane of grey hair, complete with a gruff beard, mostly kept trimmed near his chin, but with enough length to hide a myriad of wrinkles underneath.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
G'zer has perfected gruff to an art form, and can more often be found grumbling about the state of things than not. He struggles with all the newfangled occurrences, and most of the time finds himself clinging to Traditionalist views (though he may occasionally and begrudgingly admit to an improvement). While not a cruel or unfeeling man, he is not often given to affectionate displays, though children have been known to dent his rough shell, though he insists they are too loud for him.
His chief ability is complaining. The klah is too hot, the bread crust is too crunchy. The breeze is too cold. Not that he doesn't have some arthritis to lend to a little extra discomfort in some situations, but he sometimes doesn't seem truly happy unless he can gripe about something, no matter how small.
Next to complaining, he is a renowned self-proclaimed wise man. While his years have given him experience, he is not given to keeping his information up to date, and often insists that the old way is best, regardless of the truth, and it is very difficult to get him to budge. For this reason, in retirement he is often encouraged away from Weyrlings and to other tasks. He means well, but the younglings need better information than he is prepared to give.
He has picked up a fair bit of dragonhealing over his years, and he can be surprisingly dextrous when handling a wounded dragon, but the aches in his joints make keeping up with some labor difficult, but he has a good eye for triage and tries to make himself useful where he can.
Retirement is lackluster compared to riding a fighting dragon, and so he still tries to push himself when he should not. He is a dragonman first, but he often has to be reminded that he needs a second longer than the spring chickens to recover from anything strenuous.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Several children and grandchildren
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: He has had many others, none of them that significant
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY: Born to a woman of the Lower Cavern and presumed the child of a brownrider, G'zer was raised with the children of the creche, and had a childhood perfectly typical of any weyrbrat.
He began to stand for Hatchings as soon as he was eligible, but for many Turns was left alone on the sands. It was beginning to be suspected he would not be found suitable by any dragon until a small and unassuming blue stumbled into him just after his 25th nameday. He and Eldyth were never the most remarkable pair to any outside eyes, but their bond was never the weaker for it, and they made up for lack of flash with determination.
In the Interval that began their lives, they flew many a patrol and would assist on the wing in any way they could. Just because there was no Thread did not mean they were content to make themselves of service. It's in this time that G'zer found an interest in Dragonhealing and, while he could not apprentice as a rider, he learned as much as he could when duties and his dragon allowed. When Thread began to fall, they proved an agile pair, avoiding serious injury, and often flew in a lower wing to catch the clumps that the higher wings missed before they could endanger the queens. G'zer will boast of his dragon's prowess in Threadflight even now, though age has taken away the ability for a swift turn or a strong jaw for firestone.
Gradually coaxed into retirement as recovery from long flights took longer each time, he and Eldyth will still make firestone runs for the fighting wings so long as aching joints allow, and he makes himself as useful as possible for Threadscore injuries after.
