FULL APPEARANCE:
Nikola has always been among the taller and the scrawnier sort even when he was a child. His hair is often a bit of a mess, but he's got it figured out so that the strands that fall haphazardly keep out of his eyes. He has a very pointy, angular face with high cheekbones and a couple of distinctive moles. His nose is a little crooked and he has dark circles under his eyes. He tries to wear nicer clothes, but nothing overly fancy. Something that'll make him look at least half-decent.
Nikola walks with a pronounced limp due to a progressive disease causing muscular atrophies in his right leg (minor trait). He requires a cane or crutch to get around, and switches between the two depending on the amount of pain is in on a given day. He's had this since he was a child and has learned to deal with it over time.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Nikola has always been obsessed with the flow of time. He is far too aware of how quickly humans can die, and because of that, he has large ambitions to do something great before he too passes away. This 'something great' isn't related to fame or fortune, he just wants to help people. He has a very inventive mind, it's less of a creative sort of inventive and more of a practical situation. He prides himself on his intelligent, jack-of-all-trades nature. He refuses to accept help from people, even when he needs it, and is generally stubborn to the point that it hinders him.
He is a ball of snark and sass. He tries to make himself seem larger and more important than he is as he feels that people look down on him from the get-go. Whether that is true or not doesn't really matter. If someone is one of the lucky few that gets to know him, and he likes them, they'll get to see a side of Nikola he doesn't show anyone else. This Nikola is a little gentler and calmer than he usually is.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
- Yola (mother, alive) [+22]
- Nikanor (father, alive) [+24]
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Zaun Hold (minor)
HISTORY:
Nikola was the only child born to Yola and Nikanor, two farmhands at Zaun Hold. As he grew up, he quickly stuck out of all the kids at the hold... namely because of his cane. The boy had a problem with his right leg, muscles weren't forming correctly, and he needed the cane to walk because of it. It never stopped him though, he could get around the hold like the best of them once he got going. If any snot-nosed brats he hung around with picked on him, then they faced the business end of the cane. He made sure no one treated him any different and then got on with his life.
He never kept himself tied down to doing one thing and one thing only. Once he was old enough that he needed to work, he picked up odd job after odd job and learned little tricks from the people he took up jobs from. He started wanting to make all these tasks easier for everyone to do... but he never got around to doing that. At the age of 18 turns, Nikola was searched and brought to Telgar.
Candidacy rolled along at a snail's pace for two years, and Nikola often could be found diligently doing his chores. He didn't like to put down something once he'd picked it up. But, well, he could put it all down for something monumental, like a Hatching. Like Impressing a blue dragon named Manarth.
The blue was everything he wanted... his favorite color, he was a dragon, and he was nothing but kind. Okay, he was a little mournful sometimes, but Nikola could appreciate that. The two stayed at Telgar for over a decade, doing whatever work was given to them to do without much of a complaint.
Until... yeah, he had a couple of complaints. He was bored stuck in the same job day in with no variation to be had outside of whatever happened during Threadfall. Nik wanted out of Telgar and he wanted out NOW. Well, it just so happened that that was something that he could do. As soon as he heard about the Chopin wing at Semaca, he was ready to transfer. And transfer he did. He has been enjoying the work much more than plain old dragonrider work, mainly because he gets to fulfill little Nikola's dream of helping people with their tasks.
