M'ieln is pale, but less so than many redheads, having acquired something of a tan from all her time outside. M'ieln's right ankle turns at a slightly wrong angle, the result of an old break that never healed right, and she walks with a limp. She is still athletic and capable, however, and it rarely seems to slow her down. M'ieln dresses practically, either in her riding leathers or in light pants and a tunic, only rarely wearing dresses for special occasions.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: M'ieln is tenacious and strong-willed, often crossing right over the line into stubborn. Independent by nature, she's going to do what she wants to do, with or without help, and there's not a lot anyone can say to change her mind once she's got it set on something. She is reckless and impulsive and often overconfident in her own abilities. Her fight or flight instinct is pretty much all fight and her default instinct is to run towards the danger. M'ieln prefers to show the world strength and is slow to accept help if she feels it implies she's at all incapable. She'll never admit weakness, often not even to herself. For instances, she's still a little nervous around whers after a bad encounter in her youth, but refuses to acknowledge this and so often ends up lashing out at wherhandlers for no apparent reason.
M'ieln has a strong competitive streak. Anything someone else can do she can do- and better- especially if it's something physical. She'll try things just to prove that she can, for better or worse. M'ieln doesn't break rules just for the sake of breaking rules but doesn't have a ton of respect for them either, especially if she considers the rule in question stupid. In which case it was made to be broken and it's the fault of whoever passed said rule for not thinking it through.
For all that, M'ieln actually is a pretty talented rider, strong and capable, with the ability to think quickly under pressure and the persistence to keep going even when things are hard. She loves her dragon and her brother deeply, although D'javi sometimes frustrates her and she was a little hurt when he left without her.

SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Caravan near Telgar at the time
HISTORY:
Murieln was born the fifth of six children to a pair of traders. She grew up traveling Pern with the rest of her caravan. She was close with all her siblings, but particularly her younger brother, Dajavi, who she was often assigned to watch while her parents were busy. Murieln was always a bit of a troublemaker. She wasn't cruel and she didn't mean badly- she simply wanted to explore the wide, fascinating world stretched in front of her and she didn't want to be confined by curfews or the boundaries of her camp. Her little brother, Dajavi, was often her companion on her little jaunts.
In 2767, when Murieln was 18 and Dajavi was 17, the pair found a wild wher clutch, with no mother in sight. While neither of the pair had ever aspired to be wherhandlers before, they decided to try to Impress the newly hatched wherlets. Unfortunately, the eggs were not as abandoned as they seemed. Their mother, a large garnet wher, found them there and defended her clutch. Murieln could do nothing but watch as the garnet attacked first Dajavi, then her. They survived only because the caravan guards heard their screams and came to drive the wild wher off.
Dajavi was more severely injured than Murieln, so received most of the healer's early focus. Both of the pair would survive, but Murieln's broken ankle wasn't set right and she would never walk or run the same again.
The pair of siblings started to drift apart after that. Murieln was single-mindedly focused on getting stronger, regaining her ability to do everything she had before. While she didn't blame Dajavi, maybe he blamed her- He didn't seem to want to be around her very much anymore.
A turn later, early in the spring of 2769, Dajavi was Searched and taken off to Telgar Weyr. And Murieln was as alone as she'd ever been.
Murieln refused to admit she missed him. She was just fine, better than fine, without him. The family continued their route south, towards Igen Weyr, where they arrived in the late spring. Igen Weyr had a wher clutch at the time and as soon as Murieln learned about how weyr wher candidates Impressed, she had a new goal. She was going to show the whers they hadn't won. She was going to Impress one and be the greatest handler that ever was and that garnet would regret not trusting her with one of her hatchlings.
After proving that her limp didn't mean she was anything less than physically capable, Murieln was permitted to sign up for wher candidacy at Igen. The whers hatched in early summer. Murieln was not chosen, possibly because despite her protestations, she was still tense and nervous around whers. Murieln wasn't dissuaded. She'd keep trying as long took. She didn't want to just buy a wher egg. Anyone could have marks. She wanted to prove herself and be found worthy.
A dragon rose shortly after and laid a clutch of dragon eggs. Murieln decided she might as well try for that too. She was already a candidate and if Dajavi could be a fancy dragonrider, why couldn't she? She could do anything her brother could do!
This time, Murieln was successful. A white named Hroth, with a wicked hook in his tail, looked at her and declared her his. Murieln adopted the honorific M'ieln and the two began weyrlinghood. M'ieln assumed Hroth's hook would fall out as he got older. After all, she'd never seen a dragon with a hook before. It didn't, which was okay too. He was Hroth, her friend and partner in crime, and she loved him, hook or no hook.
In 2774, M'ieln learned that D'javi had transferred to Fort Weyr. Still a trader at heart and ready to see somewhere new, and maybe missing her brother just a little, M'ieln decided to transfer there too and see what he'd been up to over all these turns.
