FULL APPEARANCE:
Miala is a moderately tall and beautifully built woman, standing at 5' 11" in height, and though she's not particularly muscular, she can still hold her own in combat and Threadfall. Kept long, her light brown hair falls in silken waves to her shoulders, rarely tied; likewise, she has dark brown eyes, always full of a wary, almost watchful focus, and a keen edge. In regard to her wardrobe, Miala likes her clothes to be functional, so much so that one would be hard-pressed to try to find something colorful that belongs to her. More often than not, she's seen in some scuffed up boots, well-loved ratty breeches, a plain white linen top, and her leather dragonriding jacket.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Miala has been burned so badly that she'd rather freeze for good, and she lets her suffering define her. For giving her love so freely, she was granted sorrow, but a new sort of understanding too, and so she keeps her heart heavily guarded. Being a fiercely independent and solitary woman, she keeps everyone at arm's length for her own safety. A select few individuals know who she is at heart, primarily Taylynblynth, but she doesn't show affection in traditional or expected ways; she might acknowledge a job well done, but she spares few loving words and certainly doesn't give gifts.
While Miala is still capable of kindness and compassion, it expresses itself through strict stoicism. In times of crisis, she's always first to answer, ready to dive in and do her best to make things better for others. Though she forces herself to carry on, no matter her own feelings or how terrible things are, she doesn't always account for those who work alongside her, which can lead to her seeming insensitive and harsh. To a degree, she is actually hostile and disagreeable, simply due to feeling as though she must constantly be strong and vigilant.
On some level she hasn't acknowledged, Miala struggles against a strong sense of guilt and regret for cutting off her family, especially her father, knowing he was right to try to dissuade her from following her ill-conceived dreams. Most of all, she regrets not being able to see him again before his death, to tell him he was right, and that she was sorry for acting so hastily and irrationally. As such, she usually rebuffs all notions of reconnecting with her loved ones, both those of her own thoughts and suggestions from others; it seems like such an unreachable hope that she doesn't dare to try.

HISTORY: (TW: death/loss, infidelity)
Miala was born third of four children to a Hold wherhandler and a Journeywoman Harper. While she was a good child, who got average marks in her lessons and didn't cause trouble, she had no interest in following in her father's footsteps as a guard, nor her mother's as a Harper, in contrast to her older brother and sister. It was two Turns later that her baby sister, Giana, was born, and Miala adored her, but where Gi had a connection with Gorsk, her father's bronze wher, at an early age, Mia had nothing like that; each child seemingly had some connection to each parent, except her. Regardless, it didn't seem to trouble her, and she carried on her lessons and chores with no issue.
But trouble walked into her life, and his name was like a hymn to her ears, a spark that ignited her soul. Miala, eighteen Turns, met him by chance, at market, as caravans rolled by and crowds parted to reveal him across a busy square. Striking up conversation was surprisingly easy, and in a few days, it felt like she'd known him for ages. A Turn her senior, he was a wanderer and an adventurer, who traveled with caravans for safety and stayed in Holds to rest and resupply. For Turns, she had no vision for her life, no ambition to go into a Craft or pursue other avenues, but upon meeting him, listening to him share stories and detail what wonders he'd seen, he was everything Miala wanted for her future, and she wanted nothing more but to accompany him on his journey.
But her father didn't agree, wanting stability and safety for his daughter, which was not something such an aimless dreamer that she'd found could provide; he felt she would inevitably be hurt, and wanted to spare her such suffering. But Miala was too swept up in her feelings to listen to reason, deciding that she would be leaving with him. Gornan continued his attempts to dissuade her from doing something so reckless and foolhardy, but she was insistent, angry that he didn't support her in her newfound dream. Senses clouded by her fantasy and her head full of whispered promises, she chose to cut ties with her loved ones, and create an estrangement between her and her father that might not ever be bridged. Miala left them at dawn, accompanying her companion with a caravan departing Crom Hold.
A Turn went by in a rush of experiences and sensation, and Miala was happier than ever before, though one thing did try to dampen her adventure. A missive from her mother arrived, detailing that her father had died on active duty, and that his wher had rebonded to Giana, which was no surprise to Miala. But she didn't see fit to respond, still incensed at her father's stance about her choice; she maintained her separation from her family, and what grief she might've felt for Gornan's death was hidden well. Two more Turns found Miala and her wanderer in good health and fine spirits, and what was once a fast friendship in far off Crom blossomed into romance in 2770. A Turn later saw her absolutely smitten with her companion, especially at his gift of a firelizard egg for her twenty-first Turnday. It hatched into a blue that she named Eternity, to honor such a beautifully undying union of souls.
Well, that was what Miala thought they had. Love had blinded her, and unbeknownst to her, her companion's wandering nature was too strong for him to resist. Stopping together in Telgar Hold to rest and restock, it was nothing unusual, but a second chance meeting was had, a second night of stories shared, and before she could realize what was happening, her lover had found someone else to share in his journey. Miala woke up to find him gone a day before they were set to depart again, leaving nothing but a note in his wake to apologize and explain to her his choice. Heartbroken, but refusing to give up so easily, she tried to pursue him, attempting to follow his new caravan's tracks, but she wasn't particularly gifted in tracing those that didn't want to be found, and she eventually lost him for good.
Hopelessness set in, leaving her an anguished shadow of who she'd been before. Miala lingered in Telgar, finding menial work to sustain herself, but her path clouded, and her future uncertain. But one thing was clear: her father had been right, and she'd been a fool to not listen to him. Though caravans would come and go like water's ebb and flow, she did not follow it; she had nothing to drive her to do so. But later that Turn, her destiny would change. A Searchdragon of Telgar arrived, and soon found her, insisting she had what it took to Impress and fly for Telgar Weyr. Miala, desolate as she as, thought about refusing, but a small voice inside her whispered to accept. This was an adventure her once love wouldn't ever get to experience...but she could. Decided, she accepted Search, and went to Telgar Weyr to Stand.
Miala changed drastically during her time as a Candidate. No longer was she a dreamy adventurer, or a brokenhearted husk, but a guarded and vigilant young woman who wouldn't be so foolish as to let herself be so vulnerable again. Being taught such valuable skills to one day make her an exemplary dragonrider gave her new purpose beyond petty vengeance, and though she couldn't forget her mistakes, nor would she let herself put them behind her, her path was no longer unclear. It would be in 2772, a Turn later, that her future found her, garnet Taylynblynth choosing Miala as her own at her first time standing. Weyrlinghood was a challenge, as Taylynblynth was a constant reminder of everything Miala herself had once been; curious, dedicated, and loving...almost too loving. While it took time, Miala swore she'd protect them both, and not let her garnet be hurt as she herself had, and though daily life was (and still is) an ordeal, she slowly developed a fondness for Taylynblynth.
Graduating well into her fighting wing, Miala thought that was that, that she and Taylynblynth would fly until they could fly no longer. But word reached her that some of her weyrling class were discussing transferring to Semaca Weyr, and as more and more of them agreed, Miala too decided to join. It would be a good change, and a chance to properly put her history behind her. Taylynblynth was excited, looking forward to discovering everything Semaca had to offer. Once her affairs were in order and her transfer request accepted, Miala and Taylynblynth left Telgar behind for a new adventure.
