FULL APPEARANCE: Cole is a slender woman of above average height, with soft hands and little muscle tone although candidacy may yet change those things. Her voice is gentle and her smile is bright and easily given. Cole's clothes are well-made and stylish but have clearly seen better days. They're a few turns out of style and don't seem to have been replaced in some time, despite Cole having enough training as a Tailor to make new ones.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Cole perpetually falls short not for lack of ability but for the absence of something more important: drive. Cole is the sort of person who prefers the path of least resistance. She takes what shortcuts she can find regardless of whether or not they're wise, slacks off when she thinks no one is watching and fails to meet most of the goals she sets. She doesn't mean to be a problem. She inevitably intends to try her best and do well and those all other aspirational things. But focus does not come easily to her. She is the sort of candidate whose life is a series of self-inflicted disasters. Her hidework is wrong not because she is illiterate or stupid but because she tried to do all the reading in the candlemark before class began, while also washing her laundry. Her sack of firestone breaks because she never checked it for holes, despite the fact she is a perfectly adequate seamstress. Her assigned chores simply don't get done for no good reason at all beyond "She simply couldn't find the motivation". Cole is also decidedly not a morning person and is half-tempted to become a wher candidate just so she can sleep past 6 a.m. She is thoroughly convinced whoever designed the candidate schedule was a sadist.
Cole is not, however, one of those people who is obviously a mess. She is self-confident and composed and perfectly willing to bluff and pretend the tunnelsnakes didn't get into the flour because she forgot to close it. It was just an unanticipated disaster nobody could have prevented. She's also fairly pragmatic and willing to be politically and morally opportunistic. She's not a woman of particularly strong beliefs and is willing to hear out pretty much anyone and doesn't have much of a problem with adapting the values she professes to the moment.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Mother: Master Comoran, Tailor
Father: Master Lizette, Tailor
Sister: Zette of Bronze Hyperioth (+10, full name Morazette)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Tailor Hall
HISTORY:
Colizette, who quickly came to be known as simply Cole, was born into a long line of tailors. Her parents were both promising journeyman who in time rose to become influential masters. Her older sister, Morazette, apprenticed as soon she came of age and showed great promise. Colizette's family prided themselves on doing more than simply creating clothes- they were artists and cloth was their medium.
Cole never resented the expectation she would follow in her parents' and sister's footsteps. It wasn't something she questioned or doubted. It was simply a thing she would do, because that was the life she'd been born into. When she turned ten, her parents helped arrange an apprenticeship with a master they knew well.
Soon after Cole began her apprenticeship, something unexpected happened. Her sister, studying with a different master at Telgar, was Searched. She quickly Impressed, to a bronze. And just like that, Cole was left as the only potential heir to her family's weaver tradition.
It soon became clear that she, unlike her parents and sister, was not a natural talent. She was simply average. Her parents urged her to work harder but no matter how hard Cole tried, she never seemed to be able to catch up. She would never be the Tailor her sister could have been. So she stopped trying and learned to drift, getting barely by on the bare minimum.
Her parents' influence and the lack of conspicuous disasters was enough to keep her from washing out altogether. When one teacher grew tired of her, they simply found another to take her on. Over time, the apprenticeships grew less prestigious. Cole stopped studying under masters and started learning from journeymen, at progressively remoter, smaller and less important holds. She grew older and older without walking the tables, as former classmates and friends became journeymen and moved on.
At 22 turns old, Cole had been an apprentice for 12 turns and a journeyman's knots still seemed out of reach.
But then, on a visit to her sister, a dragon saw a spark of...something in Cole. She could be a dragonrider too.
Cole accepted and quickly decided to transfer to Fort, where she could live outside of Zette's shadow. A month later, Z'osh imprisoned Tuckal and began his program of reforming the weyr.
Cole decided to stay. Was Cole a traditionalist? Not really. But didn't see why she could BECOME a traditionalist. It seemed easier than looking for a new weyr to continue standing at.
