FULL APPEARANCE: Gymlin is decidedly on the shorter end, built sturdy and muscular, with broad shoulders and a thick build honed over many turns of dragonriding. She has strong features, fair skin, black hair and vivid green eyes. Her eyebrows are thick and bushy. Gymlin is quite fond of them- she thinks they add character. Gymlin typically wears her riding leathers or more comfortable woolen clothes cut just like her riding leathers. She does not understand formal fashions and will never be seen in a "proper" dress.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Gymlin is thoroughly comfortable in her own skin. She is proud of the hold and weyr she came from and her place on Pern as a rider. She does her duty without flinching, willing to risk her own life if necessary. She is a dragonrider, a protector of Pern, and that's not something to be taken lightly. Given a mission or a goal, she'll strive to accomplish it, for better worse, even if it puts herself and her companions in harm's way. Gymlin isn't much of one for subtleties or creative problem-solving. She'll take the straight line from A to B every time and do her best to bulldoze through. Gymlin respects the chain of command and follows the orders she's given.
Gymlin isn't the sort to chat overly much with strangers. She's brusque and to the point and doesn't see the point in being otherwise. She doesn't much care what they have to say and assumes they're not much more interested in her words. It takes time for her to warm up to people. Once Gymlin considers someone a friend, she's loyal to them and does her best to help and protect them. Gymlin doesn't take betrayal lightly and is good at holding a grudge. She still doesn't trust Benden or High Reaches or any rider involved with Z'osh. Gymlin takes an odd sort of pride in her ability to never forget a slight.
Gymlin makes up her mind quickly and changes it slowly. She rarely admits she's wrong and it's the rare argument that can sway her. She is stubborn and bull-headed and it takes a lot to sway her from her course, right or wrong. Gymlin is set in her ways. She keeps to the habits she's built over the turns, first at her hold, then at Telgar. She may pick up a few new ways of doing things from her new Fortian neighbors and is willing to add some useful skills to her repertoire, but she has little interest in fitting in for the sake of fitting in.
Gymlin has a knack for cards and enjoys an evening game, often accompanied by alcohol.

HISTORY:
Gymlin hails from a long, proud line of miners from a small northern hold in the mountains near Telgar. They mined firestone and bred goats, the firestone for trade, the goats for meat and wool. Their mountains were rocky and barren and the goats fared better up there than most livestock. The war to them was no more than stories and rumors from the distance places where their firestone went.
Gymlin was her parents' firstborn daughter. She grew up, as most children do, expecting to follow in the footsteps of those who'd come before her. She was always curious about the outside world, but content to let it remain as a mere niggling in her mind. Her place was in her hold, with her people.
Everything changed when the Searchrider came and saw potential in young Gymlin, then age fifteen. Called upon to help defend her home, Gymlin did not falter, but bid goodbye to her family, took her goat and journeyed forth to the weyr. She soon Impressed the fearsome brown Glacendath.
For five turns, they fought in the war besides their fellow riders, for the protection of the weyr and hold. When peace came in 2755, they turned their gaze and firestone towards the skies and devoted themselves to their fight against a new enemy: thread.
Outside of the battlefield, Gymlin lived her life. She made friends, took lovers, bore children and every so often, bred and raised a new goat. The weyr provided for her material needs, but old habits died hard and she enjoyed having a goat for company and the comfort of an undershirt sewn from its wool.
Gymlin continued to frequently return to her hold. She maintained strong ties with her family that remained. When her children were old enough to make the journey, she brought them too, so they could understand where it was their kin came from. Some were more enthusiastic about the journey than others. As an honored dragonrider, the visiting Gymlin often enjoyed her Lord Holder's hospitality. Over the course of these visits, Gymlin came to consider the Lord and Lady Holders friends and her eldest son grew close to one of the Lord's children, Thane.
Gymlin was content with her life in Telgar and had every intention to remain there until her eldest got the fool notion into his head to go to Fort and stand there and even talked Thane into coming along. Gymlin supposed that was what she got for leaving the rearing of her offspring to the creche. But, fools or no, the boys were her responsibility, so she followed them there. Someone needed to look out for them in the perpetually troubled southern weyr.
