- Possessing dark, curly hair and hazel brown eyes, Ren has tanned skin and so many freckles that he sometimes jokes his tan is just freckles run together. He stands at six feet eight inches, but because of his long, lanky build sometimes appears taller. He constantly has a happy expression on his face, and whether grinning or smirking (or something in between) it tends to look like he might be up to something. His nose is crooked (he won't say what happened, as that idea was bad enough to be vaguely embarrassing) but he says it gives him character. He also snores because of it. Badly. Like a wher with a cold.
His clothes are always bright and garish, and while many people wish he'd tone it down and take mercy on their eyes (they've said so, to his face) he insists this is the next big thing in fashion. His favorite color, and the one he wears the most often, is orange. The brighter the better, and he likes to pair it with equally garish and often clashing hues.

- Renkestuous is incredibly passionate. About everything. He's always going, and the only time that he's anywhere near calm is when he's sleeping and keeping everyone around him awake. He's actually wound up without a roommate from time to time because of his snoring, something he pouts about on a nightly basis. He is both impetuous and impertinent, not thinking very much of the authority granted by "the system" and caring a lot more about people who have done amazing things that he can hero-worship them over.
So prone to bad ideas and foolhardy acts that he's been called "a collection of bad ideas on legs", Ren loves pranks and dares and will take any opportunity to show off. He's got a tendency to brag and exaggerate, but where's the harm in that? He'll do just about anything for attention, including eating a bowl of firefruits, streaking across the weyrbowl, stealing full rider's gear ... anything he's put up to, and plenty of things he's come up with on his own. With no real limits or sense of what he can and can't do, he's hurt himself and other people with his antics, both physically and emotionally. He's a decent enough guy deep down and feels awful when he hurts other people, doing his best to make amends, but he just doesn't learn.
A giant bundle of confidence, Renkestuous is completely sure he's Faranth's gift to women. While he is funny and charming, he's not as great as he thinks he is. He's also lazy when it comes to any chores and lessons that aren't directly related to becoming a dragonrider. He'll pay rapt attention if you're talking about how to properly oil a dragon's hide or tactics used fighting Thread, but ask him to attend a basic knowledge lesson or clean out stalls and he's gone the moment your back is turned. He can be cowed with threats if he believes you, but you'll know every moment that he loathes being there. The only reason he does any chores at all is because he's desperate to become a rider like his father, and knows that if he gets kicked out of his place as a candidate he'll be sent back to his mother.
Honestly, when it comes down to it Ren really is a good guy. Generous almost to a fault, he loves to share what he has and spends far more marks on friends than he does on himself. His carelessness disappears here; every present is carefully thought out, and even if he gifts clothing or the like it will be in colors and styles the recipient likes even if he personally finds them dull and boring. Well. He does occasionally give out the vivid striped scarf or hat, but he has to at least try to brighten your world, right?

- The child of a journeywoman weaver and a bluerider, Renkestuous was born at Ista Hold. His father was a frequent presence in the life of his son and his weaver weyrmate, and Blue Oraneth's presence was first felt in his mind before he'd been born. The blue was almost like a third parent, at least in his mind. Raised in the Hold, Ren got along well with the other children. When it came to his lessons with the Harper, however, he was less than attentive. It wasn't that he wasn't bright; he just didn't care. After all, his father's frequent as possible visits came with stories about being a rider, and what else did he need to know? He was going to be a rider himself one day, with no doubts and no backup plan.
When he was fifteen Oraneth identified him on Search. He joined his father at Ista Weyr then, and while he went more than five turns without being chosen he wasn't worried. He knew his father had been the same, and was supremely confident that one day his dragon would come.
After a turn or so his mother asked to be transferred so that she could live with her family at the Weyr. In addition, Ren was very pleased that his father was in what he considered to be the best wing in the Weyr! The high flyers! The front line! That was where Renkestuous hoped to be one day, too.
The first hatchings were a bust, but Ren never lost faith. He was going to bond a small blue at the next hatching, or maybe the one after. Or maybe a green; a green lady would be wonderful and agile, if not quite as perfect as a blue. Or even a white! No, he'd love them all the same, really. But he'd especially love a daring little blue to dart through the skies and help him to follow in his father's footsteps.
After five turns of nothing, it was thought it best if Renkestuous transferred to another Weyr to see if he might have better luck with another dragon’s bloodlines. He was sad to leave his parents but determined he was old enough to do so. He was twenty, after all. Hardly a child. So he went to Semaca, where he could try again and keep trying! Now if only he could find his match he could really start his life among the high fliers of Semaca Weyr!
