FULL APPEARANCE:
Lean, elegant, and beautifully turned out at all times and in all places, Gomez appears to have access to funding beyond that to which a wherhandler is ordinarily entitled. He also appears to be incredibly vain, with his moustache always perfect and his hair always oiled, his shirts always starched and his day-to-day clothing fit for a Gather. Even his riding leathers are always immaculate, tailored to fit his form with elegance and style.
With brown eyes and a skin tone with a hint of olive, Gomez never needs to fear sunburn - but then he's rarely out in daylight, so that isn't much of a concern. The most notable thing about him is that when he's still he's utterly still, with only his breathing to reveal that he's alive, but that happens only rarely. Gomez is almost constantly on the move, be it dancing, play-fighting, or even acrobatics, although whether it's sheer exuberant energy or covering for a lifetime of paranoia isn't entirely obvious.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
There are those who live, those who love, and those who are so deeply in love with life itself that they can never stop demonstrating the fact. Gomez is one of the latter; he seems to be absolutely bent on living life to the fullest he possibly can, passionate and possessive to the point of parody.
Not only is Gomez prone to going over the top with delight-filled impulses and sheer exuberant joy, he seems to almost feel bound to drag other people with him. One never quite knows whether he's going to try and dance with them or toss them a stick and duel, but it's all in fun - well, mostly all in fun. The manic gleam in Gomez's eye is sometimes a little too bright for comfort, but all-in-all having him at and on your side is a benefit.
Neatly-covered by all the exuberance is a certain wariness; it's rare for people to get close to him without Gomez being aware of their presence, a suggestion of a life not always well-lived.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Lots, but very few that most others would admit to knowing.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Life itself, also known as Healer's Wingsecond Morticia of green Addamth
BIRTHPLACE: Third Cothold from the left
HISTORY:
The son of a tailor and a Healer at an otherwise-nameless Cothold, Gomez had a childhood in which the use of a needle featured prominently. He also ran with several of the cothold's other youths in his spare time. Known to the neighbouring cotholds as a high-spirited bunch, they made the most of youth and energy in the carefree time before Thread and before adulthood imposed its own limits. Gomez was something of a ringleader in these games, with natural talent and impeccable wit - if one believes a word of it, of course.
One probably shouldn't.
Over the years Gomez has become a skilled teller of tall tales - in some cases, very tall tales. There's no denying that he's a man of many talents, and also no denying that if he or his family were actually capable of everything he's claimed over the years, they'd be ruling Pern by now. To listen to Gomez is to be confident that his family inflict terrible wounds on each other on a regular basis, their quarters are full of gold and gems, and even the vegetation answers to their call - and yet none of this seems to be the case, however believable it might be when the story's being told.
The reality is a little harder to find, but several of Gomez's tales involve a spell of Holdlessness in young adulthood, and he does have the skills that would help a man survive such. A lot more tales involve trade caravans, and he is a good trader, with an eye for quality and a nose for a bargain. At some point Gomezsk hatched in Semaca, and Gomez became a wherhandler. What's definitely true in the here and now of the Reaches is that Gomez has some very interesting contacts who can lay their hands on almost anything, and he's one of the main points of contact between the Reaches and the less-than-savoury shipping that runs between the Reaches and Semaca.
His arrival at the Reaches was thrown into confusion when he fell head-over-heels with one of the Healers when he saw her - and she with him in turn. What had been intended to be a short visit became a permanent move, with Gomez and Gomezsk relocating to the weyr they now shared with Morticia of green Addamth. Both Gomez and Morticia had found someone with whom they could share everything, and Gomez has more-or-less adopted Morticia's children, dragon and firelizard as his own, while sharing everything he has with her. Her recent promotion has him absolutely delighted for her sake, with an open-hearted generosity that few of his Semacan compatriots can believe is coming from him.
The reality:
- Spring 2736: Born to a family in a caravan of traders and showfolk, picks up a lot of unusual skills and learns how to tell tall tales convincingly.
- Spring 2754: Steals a lot of the caravan's profits in order to bet on a sure thing that wasn't actually that sure. Turfed out of the caravan and left effectively Holdless, but not branded.
- Fall 2755: Follows rumours to a less-than-savoury Seahold; takes up with a bunch of thieves who float to work.
- Spring 2770: Joins the 'traders' setting up an enclave near the new Semaca Weyr, tells a lot of tall tales about how he got there.
- Summer 2770: Thanks to an accident with a wher egg mid-transport, Gomez ends up with blue Gomezsk, who turns out to be a stabilising influence.
- Summer 2774: Sneaks back into respectability through a loophole and with a lot of fast talking when Lominsa Hold becomes a reality.
- Summer 2775: Visits High Reaches as part of a Lominsan 'trading' party. Meets Morticia of green Addamth and falls head over heels in love. Moves to High Reaches to join her.
