She is on the scrawnier side, and will always be so, mostly all elbows and knees and angles- but with more breasts and hips that if not exactly generous are still more pronounced than one might expect for someone her build. Her skin tone is warm and always a bit golden, even in the winter. She wears her dark, thick hair long, easily to her waist when unbound, but usually keeps it practically pinned up. Hermosa dresses for the day she has- she's not averse to work clothes, but won't deny she likes to look pretty, when she's not expecting to get dirt on her.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Hermosa is a cheerful, energetic, extroverted, irreverent woman, who takes to life with gusto. She likes feeling good and being happy- and finds it pretty easy to be so. Her first focus is on what feels right to her and what makes her happy- in everything from clothes to places to live to choice of company. If she has an impulse- she pursues it. She's not much of one for formalities and has a pretty uninhibited tongue, which can be charming or an accidental reminder that formalities sometimes exist for a reason. Hermosa can be a bit feckless and impulsive, easily lost in romanticism without paying much mind to the practicalities. If something sounds good in theory, she'll chase it, without too much deeper thought or inner examination on "reasons why" or "potential consequences of her actions". At thirty turns old, she retains a touch of immaturity. She's the sort of thirty turn old who would show up to a party for teenagers, stay too late and show up tired and clumsy to drills the next day- and then act surprised when he squadleader disapproves. Having grown up in a fairly isolated environments, Hermosa retains her share of odd traditions and mannerisms to this day- which she will share with friends, whether they like it or not. She does like other people very much for the most part, but isn't willing to make huge changes to herself to make them like her in turn. If they don't like her? That's fine- it's a big weyr and someone else will surely appreciate her.
Hermosa is not actually as oblivious as she seems. She knows how the world works and that it can be as cruel as it is kind and does usually actually have a decent idea of underlying social and political dynamics. She just mostly chooses to ignore them, because people pleasing or chasing prestige doesn't seem to make anyone any happier and she's okay with burying her head in the sand every now and then if it makes her life seem better in the moment. She trusts any long term problems will eventually work themselves out (whether or not there is any proof this is likely). She places high value on happiness and honesty and thinks the world would be a better place if more people could admit to themselves what they really wanted.

BIRTHPLACE: Fort Hold
HISTORY: Hermosa was conceived of an illicit affair, between a wealthy man named Lodge and a drudge named Trione working in Fort Hold's lower caverns. Her mother, newly pregnant with her illegitimately offspring, knew how to play the game and recognized an opportunity when she saw it. She promised to name her child after Lodge (if a boy) or his fancy new wife (if a girl) in thanks for his "generosity", an implied threat that she would bring turbulence to his life and marriage if she didn't get what she was owed.
Lodge, deciding discretion was the better part of valor, arranged Trione's marriage to a reputable but reclusive and a bit eccentric glass smith named Pinosar, who'd chosen to set up his forge in the most distant rural backwater of a hold he could find. The glass smith accepted Trione's child as his own- and Trione did indeed name her Hermosa after Lodge's wife, even though the matter was settled.
The pair had a very happy marriage which led to multiple other children. But Hermosa would always be Pinosar's first born and darling girl, the one he taught how to glass smith as soon as she was old enough to hold the tools and who he encouraged her to follow in his footsteps. Hermosa, who liked the idea of upholding the family tradition, was eager to apprentice. But she ended up starting her apprenticeship a bit on the later side, as Pinosar was not good at maintaining relationships with others in his craft and his craft masters were not keen to formally recognize the teachings of a mentor clearly biased towards his beloved daughter.
Hermosa stuck out the apprenticeship for a few turns, but formal study proved much less fun and rewarding than working besides her stepfather in his forge. She didn't like the craft so much as the time with him. Which, while a sweet thought, her mother reminded her would probably have been a good thing to have figured out before all the turns spent on training and all her father's efforts in finding a suitable instructor. Her father, on the other hand, patted her on the shoulder and was touched to hear that no other glassmith, however renowned, could take his place in his little girl's heart.
Hermosa spent a few turns somewhat aimless, living in her parents' home and helping them out where they needed, even as they both pushed her to go after more. She next decided what she really wanted was to be a wherhandler. But she didn't just want to buy an egg- that felt like cheating and like it also wouldn't change very much beyond the fact she would now have a wher- she wanted to be properly trained to do something big and meaningful and important. And maybe be big and meaningful and important (but of course in a way that didn't require her to be inauthentic or do anything she wasn't comfortable with).
Pinosar knew even fewer wherhandlers than he did qualified glass smithing instructors, but set out trying to find one anyway, because it seemed like a worthy goal for his worthy girl. He eventually found a friend of a friend of a satisfied customer whose cousin knew a wherhandler out in Fort Weyr who could get Hermosa a spot as a whercandidate. After some time spent in candidacy, Hermosa was chosen for one of Ferorask's eggs, that hatched an absolutely precious little green.
Hermosa managed to make it through wherlinghood without causing obvious enough trouble to give her wherlingmasters conniptions. She was hardly the top of her wherling class, but she was good enough to be sent on to join Fort's squads.
Which she hoped would start bringing her the meaning and purpose she'd sought in being a wherhandler, which had remained frustratingly elusive in wherlinghood and candidacy.
