She is never seen without a gold ring that looks like a betrothal ring on her left hand.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Edda is a kind, sweet woman who tries her best. She wants to be helpful and make the people around her happy. She is quick to volunteer to do whatever needs to be done, whether it's flying on a rescue mission or getting more numbweed from a nearby hold. She is a chronic people pleaser and rarely considers whether she can actually do the thing being asked. She'll finish something poorly rather than getting help or leaving it undone. Edda has a surprising ambitious streak. She wants to be a great rider, the kind they write songs about. She's never given up on training and improving herself in hopes of becoming someone more. Edda is prone to hero worship and looks up to and is inspired by the weyr's greatest riders, wishing she could be more like them.
Edda doesn't give up on people easily. She is deeply loyal and if the people she cares about are cruel to her, she will only struggle harder to win their approval. She can be a bit of a pushover. She also tends towards obsession and clings to relationships past their natural end. The only one who can sometimes convince her to let go is Katakurth, who is her dearest and most trusted friend.
Since Avere's death, Edda has struggled to move on. She thinks of him often and is haunted by guilt for not being able to save him. Plagued by self-doubt, she panics easily and has difficulty making the quick decisions necessary during threadfall. She relies heavily on Katakurth's help.

Edda had a happy childhood, growing up alongside her lifelong friends: Avere, Liavinne and Paiyo. Edda cared about all of them deeply, even if Avere bossed her around a bit more than she would have liked, Paiyo didn't seem to much care about her one way or the other and she sometimes suspected Liavinne didn't really like her at all.
Edda doesn't know when she first fell for Avere. It felt like she had always been half in love with him, her childish crush maturing into something deeper as they grew up. Eventually, Avere returned her feelings and promised to become her weyrmate after they both Impressed.
When Fort took over the rebuilding of High Reaches, Paiyo suggested the group transfer. Paiyo had heard the weyr struggled to retain enough candidates under Golre's policies and a smaller candidate pool would surely improve their chances of Impression. Besides, a weyr in transition could offer unique opportunities to young people looking to make a name for themselves. The group agreed to go and all four friends transferred, excited for the new adventures they'd have at High Reaches.
All four soon became candidates there. Edda tried hard in her lessons and practices, but was never the most competent of candidates. Answering questions in class made her anxious and she wasn't fast or strong enough to excel in drills. Her friends quickly surpassed her and never let her forget it.
The group's first clutch at High Reaches was donated by Lutrath, unexpectedly caught by a green. Edda naturally dreamed of being chosen as the goldrider, but it was instead a large blue who found her that day. Edda loved Katakurth from the moment her eyes met his and was determined to become the rider he deserved. As Katakurth grew and they began to train more seriously, however, it became clear that Edda was ill-suited to flying in a thread-fighting wing. She panicked too easily and forgot what she was supposed to do. At the suggestion of her mentor, and with Katakurth's encouragement and support, Edda decided to join the Healer's Wing instead and contribute to the weyr as best she she could in her own way.
Edda's three friends had failed to Impress at Katakurth's clutch and at the green and garnet clutches that hatched during Edda's weyrlinghood. Bored with High Reaches and disillusioned about their chances at Impressing in the weyr, they decided to go home to Ista, where there were more golds to lay "properly sized" clutches. They were going with or without Edda. Edda chose to transfer with them, not ready to give up her friends and, most especially, Avere.
In time, Avere and Liavinne Impressed. Paiyo decided he had had enough of waiting for a dragon that might never come and purchased a wher egg. Avere and Edda became weyrmates, as they had planned all those turns ago. Avere bought Edda a hold-style betrothal ring to commemorate the occasion. Avere's dragon was a green named Satashath, fast even for her color. Edda thought it would be very romantic for Katakurth to catch her, but the blue was never quite quick enough to win her flights.
Avere proved a domineering weyrmate, delegating to Edda all the tasks he didn't want to deal with, from mending his straps to cleaning the weyr to maintaining their supplies of oil. He was quick to blame Edda for anything that went wrong, whether it was her fault or his or both of theirs or neither. It took time but eventually Katakurth, who had never particularly liked Avere, convinced Edda she deserved more and the pair split up. Edda's friend group fell apart soon after, Paiyo drifting away from all three of them and Liavinne siding with Avere. Liavinne soon confessed her long-held fondness for Avere and the two became weyrmates.
Time past and Edda grew into her role as a rider. With Katakurth's help and the benefit of experience, she learned to keep a cooler head during threadfall and came to enjoy her role helping rescue the wounded. That all changed one terrible fall, Satashath's wingsail was struck by thread. Edda and Katakurth were the nearest members of Healer's Wing and flew to help. Hurting and scared, Satashath panicked and flew away from rather than towards the pair. Her strength gave out and she crashed to the ground before Edda and Katakurth could catch up. Both rider and dragon died.
Liavinne, who had failed to flame the thread that wounded Satashath, lashed out at Edda, blaming her for Avere's death. Haunted by guilt, Edda decided to return to High Reaches, away from her former friends. She started to wear Avere's ring again, a reminder of the price of failure, and resolved to become a better rider, so no one would ever die again because she wasn't good enough.
