FULL APPEARANCE:
Helmara tries to keep herself looking as nice as possible. She has very long, sandy blonde hair that she keeps in several braids. She does this to keep the hair out of her eyes. Her most noticeable feature besides her hairstyle is her well-defined, high cheekbones. She also has a faint smattering of freckles across her cheeks. Her skin is pale and her eyes are a deep green color.
Helmara is very tall, but also rather dainty and slim in her build. She has the figure of a woman who never had to work too hard in her entire life. She tends to not wear a whole lot of makeup, just a little bit of red on the lips to make them pop will do for her. She wears nice clothes, usually in the form of a good blouse and long skirt.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Helmara has an ego the size of Pern. With a generally haughty and vain sort of attitude, she loves to talk down to people and laugh at their misfortune. She truly believes that she is the cream of the crop, and that she deserves every good thing in the world... even if she doesn't really do anything to actually warrant it. Her work ethic is poor at best and she tries to do things the easy way first. She refuses to show any emotional vulnerability, and her emotions tend to come out in bursts of explosive anger and yelling.
Despite her ego, she's always a suck-up to authority figures. She'll be uncharacteristically kind to them. Her level of confidence is through the roof, and she has no problem talking to anyone or attempting to do anything. She'll try nearly anything once... and then not enjoy it because it wasn't up to her standards and never do it again. Of course, if too much danger is involved, she won't do it... unless you egg her on enough. Helmara loves to live in the moment and doesn't waste her time thinking about her past or her future.

BIRTHPLACE: Ista Weyr
HISTORY:
Helmara was the third of six children born to two weyrfolk at Ista. Her parents were minimally involved in her upbringing. They visited every so often, sure, but for the most part she had little contact with them as a child. She was always a suck-up to the creche workers who raised her, mainly because she liked the positive attention she got from it.
While she didn't have much of a relationship with her parents, she was always very close to her siblings. Although, being one of the middle children in a group of six meant that she could get overlooked in the group fairly quickly. That made her think to act differently from the rest of them in order to stand out. Therefore, she acted like she was the best out of all of them, and it stuck. Her created ego grew and grew and grew over time.
When she got old enough that she needed to start working, she thought about it. Why should she have to do any sort of manual labor? She was above that, wasn't she? But she still had to work. After a period of thought, she decided to become a cook. It wasn't an easy job like she had thought, but she still figured it was probably simpler than a lot of ones she could have chosen.
A few years later, her ego got the best of her. It was nothing too serious. Her siblings dared her to go grab a snake that they saw sticking out of the grass. She made some dumb excuse not to do it at first, not wanting to get hurt, but they egged her on until she marched right up and grabbed it. She got bit for it. After bringing both her and the snake to the healer and the beasthealer, she was cleared for any sort of poison or venom. However, she wasn't going to go through getting bit and not keep a memento of the occasion. She stuck around and had a longer chat with the beasthealer and ended up keeping the snake, naming it Sonder.
When Semaca began to attract transfers to their weyr, Helmara was ready to go in an instant. She had grown tired of her boring day-to-day life at Ista, there was certainly far more to do over there in Semaca than there. She packed everything up, Sonder included, and left. When she got there, she continued working as a cook. It was what she knew how to do best.
One night while she was laying in bed, a thought struck her. Being a cook was no great hurrah that she thought befitted her, but being a rider definitely was. When she woke up the next morning, she decided that she would become a candidate. She knew that she had to get searched at Dragon Day, and luckily, when that day finally rolled around, she was searched. Thank Faranth. She isn't a fan of all the chores and the hard work, but she's certain that the end product will make it worth the time.
