Her hair is thick and she keeps it cut slightly shorter than shoulder length. Eli has three moles on one of her cheeks and more splattered across her limbs and body. Eli wears large, thick glasses and is heavily near-sighted without them. Eli continues to dress in the style of her home hold, her clothes well-made and sturdy but not extravagant and a few years behind the current fashion. Eli likes jewelry, although she can't afford much of it, and will wear any little bits and pieces she gets at gathers or as gifts every day, even if it doesn't all go together.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Eli fundamentally likes other people and wants them to like her in turn. She does her best to follow the rules and do both what is expected of her and what she thinks is best. She is at heart kind and can be more than a bit gullible. Eli thinks the best of pretty much everyone she meets. Eli isn't particularly motivated by abstract concepts like "duty" or "for the good of the weyr." She is easily persuaded, however, by personal appeals, for better or worse. She'll do her best work when she can easily draw the connection between what she's doing and who she's doing it for. Eli is a bit immature for her age and still struggles to make good decisions independently. She will generally do what she's told without too many questions and if someone asks for her help, she'll probably say yes with a similar lack of scrutiny. Eli is the sort of person who truly, deeply and genuinely believes the pirates are the innocent sailors they claim to be and it will take concrete proof to convince her they are up to anything other than perfectly legitimate trade and sailing.
Eli respects authority and expertise and is happy to bring problems to the attention of people who know how to handle them rather than trying to do everything herself. Eli is fairly cautious and has no desire to run blindly into danger or to fruitlessly wrestle with a thorny problem. Perseverance isn't her strong suit and Eli is prone to giving up too quickly, especially if she doesn't understand why what's she doing is important. She prefers to stick to the things she knows how to do and is comfortable doing and doesn't seem to have much of a drive to improve herself.
Eli is by nature something of a magpie. She enjoys collecting things, rarely of any particular value. Her bags will often be filled with little bits and bobs she picked over the course of the day, with little concern over their usefulness, such as pretty rocks, shiny shells and colorful feathers. She does like more valuable jewelry and gold and gems as well, but such things are outside the means of an ordinary candidate like herself.

HISTORY:
Eli was conceived in the course of a brief dalliance between her holder mother and her trader father. By the time she was born, her father had long since moved on to other adventures. Nia named her daughter Elidibus, after the (male) founder of their cothold, but she quickly came to be known as simply Eli.
For the first few years of Eli’s life, it was just her and her mother. It was a simple life but a happy one, peaceful and moderately prosperous. In time, Eli’s mother fell in love and married the local harper, who came to regard Eli as his own. It was Eli’s stepfather who first realized she couldn’t see as well as other children and took her all the way to the distant Fort Hold to have her fitted with a pair of proper glasses. He taught her to read and write along with her siblings and encouraged all three children to dream of pursuing crafts of their own. Eli never did. She was happy with her life exactly as things were.
One summer, Eli's parents, hoping to treat the family to a nice meal, purchased a herdbeast from a local gather that had been transported all the way from Telgar. Eli, who was 14 and really too old for such antics, cried until her parents gave in and agreed to let her kept the bovine as a pet instead. Before even confirming that the bovine was in fact female, Eli decided to name it Princess.
In 2772, Semaca offered holders the chance to move to the weyr in large numbers for the first time. Seeing an opportunity, a pair of Eli's distant cousins decided to travel to the southern continent. As Eli's cothold was conveniently located along the road to the nearest port, they spent a night there on their journey. Eli's cousins decided they could use an extra set of hands for their new life on the southern continent and convinced Eli to join them. Her mother had two other children, after all, while they were sadly childless. Did she really want to let her two aging cousins move to a savage land all by themselves? After some mild prodding, Eli agreed to go. Her parents were concerned, but Eli was an adult, grown enough to make her own choices in life. The three boarded a ship to Semaca.
Eli's cousins stayed at Semaca for all of three days. After hearing about a grisly spotty attack and seeing the rustic facilities for themselves, they declared the charms of the southern continent highly overrated and boarded a ship sailing back north. They did not bother to tell Eli they were leaving. It was another two days before Eli found out where her cousins had gone and why she couldn't find them. A concerned rider offered to fly Eli back home, but Eli decided to stay. The Semacans had already done so much to help them settle in, after all, and it wouldn't be fair to leave them with nothing for all that work. And maybe she could learn to like the jungle. Maybe.
