Well the good news seemed to be that her hands were fine. The bad news was that she hadn't come up with any new answers for the Weyr. She winced as her nail caught. Well. That'd teach her to be helpful.

Finding herself with nothing else to do, but not wanting to leave just yet in case the weyrleader decided she needed something more, Anabella coldly to the chatter. It was a lot of nothing, really, but she raised an eyebrow at F'nir. "I'd find the idea of this being a deliberate plot a lot more believable if there was a compelling reason why anyone would want to target the Weyrs," she said. "Revenge is all well and good, but if our Weyr is laid up with countless poisonings, Thread will consume the land and quickly spread to other Holds and Weyrs. And a lone madman who didn't care couldn't cause all of this without notice." She very much did believe that the weyrfolk - or, more specifically, the holdless among them - could be responsible, but she didn't particularly feel like incriminating herself in pointing that out, as she doubted a bronzerider would care about the distinction.

At Raev's command and observation that there were no signs of tampering, she dipped in a courtsey. "I believe I have exhaused my usefulness here, so I will move on to another storeroom as well," she said, following the wherleader out of this dead end search.

"Tell my wingleader of my words," F'nir hissed back at the wherhandler, meeting her eyes resolutely, "Firestorm is the wing of bronzes, who must be ready to lead the vanguard in our defense. If Wingleader Myalla lacks the strength for the charge, she must be replaced with a bronzerider who does not neglect his duties."

A female brownrider having the command of good, solid, male bronzeriders was an inversion of the natural order.

Surely, when the war came, she would recognize that and step down, in favor of a proper war leader. Or if she refused, the Council would force her hand. F'nir refused to fear her so-called authority.

"Weyrs have warred before, in recent memory, for territory, for power and yes, for vengeance," F'nir reminded the weyrfolk, "No one feared then the consequences of leaving too few of us to defend against the coming pass. If we are too weakened to face thread- it opens our lands for another weyr to seize dominion."

It was not their fault they didn't understand. Weyrfolk and wherhandlers did not feel the same drive for domination. It was why they were weyrfolk and wherhandlers- meant to follow the leadership of strong riders.

He turned on his heel and stormed off, to another storeroom to search. He was a bronzerider. Surely he would be the first to spot signs of intrusion (although as a bronzerider, he did not waste his time growing familiar with the lower caverns, so he supposed the commonfolk had their place too in this investigation- their local knowledge combined with his superior instincts).

Veryn's patience was wearing thin. The bronzerider deserved a good smack upside the head, or maybe three, but she refrained from delivering them. She kind of hoped the Wherleader would, though. She seemed like a woman with a strong arm.

"It could have been anyone," she snapped. "We don't know enough of what's going on to put blame on anyone yet. It's best to focus on finding the source of the poison so no one else is effected - and you're upsetting the whers."

Wherleader Raev seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. That was probably why she'd been elected.

When Lisask was ordered to check another storeroom, Veryn hesitated, unsure whether the blue needed a steadying hand or the search another pair of eyes more. But she'd already told Lisask that she'd assist him, so she'd do that.

The bronzerider, though - he was clearly a bloody-minded idiot.

Lisask eyed Veryn gratefully as she certainly seemed to get it. Subconsciously the young Wher would lightly press against the side of her finding comfort in her presence. But now wasn't the time for comfort. Now was the time for searching and learning. Now was the time for figuring out what the threat to his Weyr was and to help to fix it. But the question that was murmured from the dragonrider beside him tempted him very much back into comfort. He missed having Alisa at his side and he knew if the roles were reversed, she'd be tearing this storeroom up searching for what had harmed him. But this situation upset him deeply. He bobbed his head mutely before pressing it closer to Veryn for easy access. Yes. He loved head scritches... Alisa could always get that irritating spot that he couldn't reach no way no how. He surmised that Veryn could probably find it as well.

This offer and her assurance that Wherleader Raev would surely alert them if there were enemies in their midst helped the young Wher clear his mind and get it back to the task. They had to see if they could find the source of this malady. Speaking of Raev, her voice rang out, first talking sternly to another of the humans, before telling Rask and himself to go check out the other rooms for smells. He was slightly confused as he knew that she had said to check this one very thoroughly. But her newest direction was strong as well and Rask was already on her way out. Lisask nodded briskly and was right on her tail. Not literally because that would be rude. But he hurried out after her wordlessly before ducking into the very next door. Immediately he began carefully running his nose along the smells of this other storeroom. There was more foodstuff here, it was a cool storage that he knew that he usually wasn't supposed to be in. But he would carefully nose along the crates searching for anything that didn't smell distinctly food like.

Discreetly, Veryn reached to scratch Lisask behind his headknobs. It was clear that the blue really wanted his handler, who was a victim of the poisoning, and needed to help in whatever way he could. He actually seemed far more practical than Molloth, who was very dear but also quite easily confused. He still didn't understand that he couldn't follow Veryn around everywhere, even though he should have stopped well over a year and a half ago. Poor thing, he'd already gotten stuck more than once trying.

And while Veryn wasn't really able to do much about finding traces of poison herself, she could at least do her part in keeping Lisask as happy and soothed as possible. Shards, she'd be crawling out of her skin with worry if Molloth had been poisoned! All in all, Lisask was doing fairly well. He just wanted some way to help his handler.

When Lisask and the garnet, Rask, were told to go check other storerooms, Veryn kept an easy hand on Lisask's shoulder. "I'm sure that if there's anything wrong, you can find it," she told Lisask encouragingly. She didn't know how to talk to whers, really - was it different from talking to dragons? - and she definitely didn't know Lisask specifically, but she was fairly certain that she was more helpful here than trying to sort through for poisons visually when she had no idea what any sort of poisin looked like, except what she'd learned in her survival classes.
