Shanty is the type to care too much and too little about her appearance. She keeps herself nearly groomed when she needs to, but has 0 complaints about getting tossed into the mud or the roiling sea. Her clothing, overall, remains utilitarian but she has trinkets on her from past conquests that she personally stole. She adores scarves and such, and will usually have one wrapped around her upper arm or one on her head to keep her hair out of her eyes.

Physically, she’s stocky and muscled from working on the ship, and she takes care to keep herself in tip top physical shape.

Shanty is stubborn. Plain and simple.

She has her own way of doing things and will bow her head ONLY to charge headfirst into those who tell her otherwise. Of course, with age, she’d gotten a little of her mother’s cunning and learned to give way enough to get people off her back. She’s loud, rambunctious, and fearless to a fault, and eager to learn only to further her own agenda. She’s willing to play the perfect little candidate/rider/whatever if only to keep the (obviously fake) authority figures off her case.

This isn’t to say she doesn’t have good qualities. When she sees someone she finds worthy to spend time with, she will tend to them and fight for them until they lose her respect. She’s a surprisingly gentle to younger things, be they human, dragon or otherwise, only because she knows what it’s like to be small and not know anything. She can be the sisterly type and that includes gently bullying her chosen family, as well as defending them without question.

HISTORY:

Shanty was left in the care of a Cothold’s creche at day one. Her mother aand father, while former residents of the cothold, were now pirates and had no time for a child.

While the cothold was less than thrilled to be hosting what was essentially a cuckoo’s egg in their midst, they were smart enough to realize that this was just a child and had committed no crimes against them. In addition, they did not want to think about any consequences should the parents return and see the child not tended to... The creche handlers were always careful to treat Shanty no better nor worse than her peers, and she would grow up to fit in with them surprisingly well.

She would often cause trouble, not because she was a pirate’s child but because she was curious and eager to see how far she could push boundaries. While her energy could be used for misdeeds, she also could use it to help wear out the other children through play and activities. Even as a little brat, she had a strong sense of right and wrong, though it was always skewed towards what benefited her and her in-group…

As Shanty grew, she began to wonder about the sea. She’d been out in fishing boats but she wanted MORE. Wanted to travel and see what was out there. She was 18 and already planning to make a move when Captain Bravura made a stop at the seaside cothold. While the captain was somewhat apprehensive, Shanty’s boldness and eagerness to get out into the world made him relent. He would take her in and she would begin her life as a pirate.

It was a grueling 2 turns. She worked herself stiff, wanting nothing more than to impress the captain who had taken a chance on her. She learned to fight, to steal and to charm who she could, but it always felt like something was missing to her. Like she could do MORE for the captain…

When they made port in Semeca, she saw her chance.

She would worm her way into the weyr, get some info on them all, and just report back what she found. If nothing else, Shanty had been all over the sea, it felt like. Why not start a new adventure here, able to take wing as she needed?

Captain Bravura, while not 100% on board with the plan, knew Shanty would keep at it, as she was just… so stubborn. Plus, while she was a valued member of the crew, this would be a good chance to learn more about the ins and outs of the weyrs, and perhaps their secrets of dragon care…?

Regardless, Shanty was put out there or a dragon to sniff out. With how loud she could be, it didn't take too long for SOMEONE to notice her, be it through good or bad reasons. She was sent off with little but a rucksack of her things and her best friend, a flit named AY.

Do you have any personality preferences or concerns?: I think they could benefit from a softerspoken dragon, if only because they’re a spitfire who need to learn people aren’t always out to get them. But whatever happens happens.

Do you have any other preferences or concerns?: Nah.

Why do you think these choice/s would be a good fit?: They really only see a dragon as a status symbol in some sense. Color hardly matters, and frankly the idea of having a big broody gold rubs her the wrong way.

Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?: Up to losing a (non-dominant) limb is fine.

FULL APPEARANCE: AY is stout and a bit of a clumsy flier. He has a deep brown hide with lighter brown speckles all along his lower half. His face has a distinctive white mask, giving him a skull like appearance.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: AY’s a cunning little flit, obeying Shanty and ONLY Shanty. They’ve been together since Shanty was a little girl, a gift from her mother and a valued partner since then.

He cares not for other flits, not even when little flit flights happen. He seems perfectly content to play by himself until he’s called to by Shanty. He also likes to follow Shanty everywhere if he can manage, but is also very good at staying away from her or traveling separate from her as needed.

All pirate characters on TPA must have joined the crew as willing adults; they don't have children on the ship. As a result, this entire history is nonviable.

You still have her listed as 16, despite also somehow being a pirate

Staff isn't going to allow the pirate captain to be an adoptive parent, since that sets far too much precedent for other characters--and staff when playing her for plots--and is out of character for the established NPC captain. Additionally, her name isn't even Bravura.

This history still does not work. Pirates wouldn't return to a place that could recognize them for what they are and brand them Holdless. They still need to be able to offload their goods on law-abiding citizens, after all.

We are not going to allow a pirate spy or anything adjacent to that. This isn't how Search works, you can't just lure a dragon out. Additionally, the pirates have good trade relations with Semaca, they don't need to somehow gain "secrets". Plus, it's Semaca, they don't really have any secrets to sniff out.
