Garrett was fairly sure he'd never walked around the Weyrbowl so many times in his life. He was surely wearing a groove into the ground. He knew the feel of every pebble under his shoes by this point. The other new wherhandlers were having a nice, relaxing night in, getting to know their new wherlets and bonding with them. Garrett, though? Garrett was walking in circles around the Weyrbowl with a(n increasingly heavy) blue in his arms. Seriously, was Garrsk growing in his very arms? That was the only possible explanation for the growing burning in his arms, and Garrett wasn't exactly a slouch.

Is training. Is good, the blue had said when the burning feeling had slowly begun in Garrett's arms.

"This is not training," Garrett grumbled. "It's not sanctioned by the wherling masters, so it doesn't count."

Is training, Garrsk insisted. I offered walk. You said bad idea. So now training.

"We could just be relaxing like everyone else," Garrett complained yet again.

Will be grown before we know. Must be ready. Thread not rest because we tired.

Garrett groaned, but continued putting one reluctant foot in front of the other. Maybe he was right. And this was good practice, anyway, using Garrsk's vision to navigate. It could be worse. He just felt foolish walking in circles around the Weyrbowl (or 'doing patrols', as Garrsk insisted on calling it) hauling a tiny blue wher when everyone else was either taking advantage of a day off or busy with real work.

Esk had absolutely no idea why anyone in their right minds would be walking circles around the Weyrbowl, and even less of an idea why anyone--right mind or not--would be doing so carrying a wriggling bundle of wherlet. Wretched things, wherlets. They couldn't even go get food for her. Watching them go around was practically making her dizzy.

Make go inside, she ordered her human, who was even lazier than a wherlet, even if she didn't insist on being carried around. Honestly, the thing had presumably working legs! She sent the image of the pair along with her words, seeing where her handler could not. No want watch weirds.

Make them yourself, Emi shot back, waving one hand slightly as though it could brush away the image the mostly-garnet (not gold, because of course Emi had never gotten the gold she deserved, and worse the not-garnet parts were green) had shown her. I'm busy.

"Busy", in this case, meant laboriously darning a sock. It was a task she'd done countless times when she'd been young, though having to do it by feel alone made it rather more difficult. She'd just chosen to do it outside in the hopes that her wher wouldn't follow her. Esk, knowing exactly what was happening, had of course spitefully chosen to follow her.

Esk sighed, lifting her head from where it had been resting on her forepaws to look at the pair. Should stop walk around. Ruining nice night. Bad enough human keep poking self with needle. Is annoying.

It's a blunt needle. Darning needles are blunt.

Still make annoying "ow" noises anyway.
