Hester is a somewhat tall young woman with a slight frame that belies the strength she actually has. There's some lean muscle there, if one looks closely. She has a round face with dainty features and bright blue eyes. Her hair is blonde and curly, though she takes deep pains to ensure that those curls are orderly, neatly arranged in a chin-length bob. Her clothing is equally fastidious, as feminine and as covered in embellishments as she thinks she can get away with at any given time. Even her work clothing is frilly, though most of it is made from simple materials, and she seems determined to prove that she can do anything in a skirt that others might do in trousers.

Hester is the sweet, happy sort of person who just always seems to be in a good mood. She's outgoing, able to at least attempt to make friends with everyone and seemingly oblivious to how annoying some people find that. She loves to be the center of attention, and can sometimes decide that she needs to put on dramatics in order to stay there; someone else is getting more attention? She'll be louder, more obnoxiously cheerful, show off her singing voice, cry over a stubbed toe, whatever it takes. She has a tendency to give other people "cutesy" nicknames, again completely unaware of how annoying that can be.
Despite her upbringing on a farm and her decision to come to a Weyr where there isn't much high society to speak of, Hester is incredibly girly. She wants to be a Proper Lady, because that's just how things are done at places that aren't backwater nowheres like the farm she came from. Having a dragon isn't counter to this goal because, after all, goldriders have dragons and are still Proper Ladies. She's incredibly girly, in love with lacy dresses--the more ruffles and flounces the better--makeup and intricate hairstyles. She just wants to look pretty. And attract boys. She is definitely a boy-crazy teenager, and can talk about her current crush all day long, though exactly who her current crush is seems to change by the day. She also pretends to be afraid of dirt, despite having worked in it her entire life. She's not really bothered by getting her hands dirty, but everyone knows ladies scream when encountering a stray bit of mud, so she has to put on a show. Plus, maybe someone will do her work for her if she acts freaked out by it. She actually loves runnerbeasts though, and wishes dearly that she had one of her own. A pretty dapple gray one with ribbons in its mane.
In the end, what Hester really has is ambition. She wants to be something more than just a farmer. Lady, goldrider, maybe even Harper or wherhandler or the rider of some lesser dragon, the specifics aren't that important to her. She just wants to be someone important to more than just herself.

HISTORY:
Hester was born at a small farming hold expecting little more from life. She would be a farmer like her parents, and that was that. Oh sure, she had a sister who had gone off to become a Vintner for some reason, but Hester? She showed neither particular aptitude nor interest, so home she stayed.
It wasn't so bad really, though she did dream of going elsewhere. Somewhere grander, somewhere more elegant than a dusty nowhere. As she grew up (or at least began to consider herself very grown up), she started to wish that she was a proper Lady with clean, soft hands instead of having dirt under her fingernails. Not that the dirt was so bad, but it was the life it indicated that she resented a bit. She began to wonder if she should have tried to apprentice as a Crafter somehow after all--maybe as a Harper or a Weaver. Those seemed suitably feminine.
But then a searchdragon from the Weyr showed up, and she saw a whole different possibility: Weyrwoman. A possibility that lasted all of two sevendays in her mind, because if Benden Weyr was anything, it certainly wasn't as glamorous as she'd imagined. Some recent political upheaval or... something. She didn't really understand it. Try as she might to pass herself off as urbane, Hester was truly very uneducated. So she asked to be sent to Semaca, a fruitful land filled with mystery and wonder and fantastic bounty.
Clearly she could become Weyrwoman there.
