FULL APPEARANCE: Taku, while not the tallest man to ever grace Pern (far from it!) is someone who carries himself with a kind of grace that can make him seem larger. He takes more pride in his looks than he used to, his long hair often carefully braided, and all of his clothing neat and well taken care of. He does not dress in an overly fancy way, most of the time, preferring simple clothes when he’s not wearing his rider’s leathers. Greens and blues are common in his wardrobe, preferring cool shades to warmer tones most of the time.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Taku, while he uses male pronouns and is male, was not born that way. He was born in a female body, though now that he is fully open and comfortable with who he is he is a lot more comfortable in his own skin.
Taku is a man who was once recklessly brave and confident, but has settled down into someone much calmer. While still confident, he is quiet about it compared to the loud, boastful confidence he once had. He’s no longer nearly as reckless, and prefers instead to spend his free time with his two young children. He has a deep sense of compassion for others, and finds himself helping people out often, perhaps more than he strictly should. While this is a great asset, he also ends up being rather easy to take advantage of because of it.
He’s rather passive when it comes to himself, of the belief that people can do and think what they want. If people treat him badly? So be it. He just wants to be a good rider and a good father, and accepts any treatment whether it be good or bad. He’s had many relationships over the years, a good chunk of them turning out rather toxic due to his own lack of desire to stand up for himself.
He’s exceedingly gentle with most people, but especially his own children, when he gets to visit them. He doesn’t always get to see them often due to his status as a rider, but he genuinely loves both toddlers and would do just about anything to see them both happy. He spends a lot of time spoiling them when he’s able to visit, and they’re one of the few things he’ll still boast or brag about. After all, surely his sweet twins are the best children in the world, right?
HISTORY
FAMILY:
[Brother]
Inori [Daughter, Twin]
Castiel [Son, Twin]
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Minor Hold
HISTORY: Born the second child of a crafter couple in a minor hold, Taku wasn’t really someone who drew attention in his youth. Being born female, and especially someone who was not nearly as good at things his father cared about, he was ignored often. His brother, older by one year, tended to garner more of their father’s attention. His mother wasn’t really around, having left them with their father when Taku and his brother were both still quite young. Instead, Taku looked up to his older brother, who showed more care for him than his father ever did. When he told his brother he was not a girl, but a boy, he was the first to fully accept Taku, and wholeheartedly supported him in everything.
Apart from that lack of attention, Taku’s childhood wasn’t particularly unusual. He started working the farms with his brother when they were both old enough, both brothers just boisterous enough that they caused a good bit of trouble. They were never really the pranking type, but they were the type to get into all kinds of mischief regardless. Some of the ideas turned out fine, but others resulted in nothing but trouble and temporary punishments for the two.
And then, when he was 15, Taku was searched, but his brother wasn’t. Taku wanted to go to the Weyr, taking his brother with him, but his brother refused, citing a girl he’d had his eye on as a reason for not going. The resulting fight was fierce, and the fallout enough to have Taku storming off to the Weyr on his own and refusing to contact his brother further. He was brought to Igen, where he stayed in candidacy for roughly 2 years.
When he was 17, Taku impressed to a mutated white, Mirith. Mirith, preferring female pronouns, seemed to exacerbate all his hot-headed tendencies while they were in weyrlinghood. He was reckless, confident in himself and his abilities, and for the first portion of his time as a weyrling, he continued to cause trouble. It was only after being called out on his tendencies by a classmate that he began to truly question if he was a good person or not, and begin to change.
By the time he graduated weyrlinghood and could transfer into the wings, the young man had made some changes, but he was still not entirely a new person. He still had a temper at times, and was still bold, brash. He was less of a braggart, but this would not fully go away until he met a boy when he was about 22. He was fascinated with him, convinced he was in love with him, and began seeing him. Their relationship was never fated to last long, though, his partner seeming to lose interest in him the longer it went on. Eventually, they broke up, though not before Taku discovered that he was pregnant from their previous relations. Taku was happy enough to discover it, having wanted children in some fashion, and opted to keep the baby, or babies in his case.
His partner was less ecstatic. He had no interest in raising children so young, and when Taku finally gave birth, he left, transferring to a new Weyr. He and Taku didn’t have a bad relationship, still contacting each other from time to time, but once their twins were born he wanted no part in raising them. They were mostly cared for by the crèche, and the years passed in the blink of an eye until Taku was 26 and the twins were 3. Having children softened Taku significantly, and the boastful attitude had gone away entirely in the face of the two young children that were his. Now at 26, Taku has also decided to leave Igen, wanting to go to a place that was distant from the bad decisions of his youth. Eventually, he settled on Fort and requested a transfer, going into the healer’s wing with Mirith. His twins were brought along and given into the care of the crèche once more, though he had decided to spend more time with his children whenever possible.
